This week's episode is a perfect example of succeeding when all odds are stacked against you. Having the strength to pick yourself up and dust yourself off no matter how many time you get knocked down in to the dirt. My guest Dane embodies this story romanticized by American cinema. Dane started out in the South Side of Chicago. He lived in a condemned house as a child surrounded by a dangerous neighborhood. After moving to the east coast and experiencing much of the same life he had in Chicago. It was not until he was 13 that Dane made it out to California and in with his Grandma. This week I met up with stand-up comedian Noah Gain in the green room before his set at Tommy T's in Pleasanton, CA. Noah is a comic on the rise, currently in his 4th year of stand-up. Like many comics, he was a fan of comedy long before the took the stage himself. The way he got in to comedy is a little more of a trial-by-fire situation. Not knowing how go get his foot in the door, Noah did what anybody would do in the age of technology; he turned to Craigslist. He found a gig asking for an experienced comedian, and long story short, he ended up performing his first ever stand up gig at a benefit for battered women. He obviously survived the experience. Noah has gone on to share the stage with Orny Adams, Anjelah Johnson, Chris Redd (who is now on Saturday Night Live), and Aries Spears from Mad TV.We talk about his goal for his stand-up, why he doesn't post any of his sets online, and his strong interest in Serial Killers--Noah assured me that we did not have to worry about our safety at his shows. Filmmaker/Director Jack Meggers​ is on Uncontained​. Jack got his feet wet on stage doing theater in New York City. Eventually while in NYC, Jack's passion turned towards film and cinema. This inspired him to move west to LA and learn the film industry form the inside out gaining valuable hands-on experience in Hollywood.Recently Jack moved back to his home state of Iowa to start working on a full-length feature film titled "The Burial". Since Jack has been back in Iowa, he has been awarded a Fellowship of the Arts from the State of Iowa, becoming the first filmmaker to be awarded this honor.Jack and I talk about his upcoming short film "Undertow" and the feature film he is working on, "The Burial". I talk to Allan Ritter (Drums) and Adam Smith(Bass) the architects of the band EMG. They are a two-person writing team and recruit other musicians to help their music come to life on stage. You may be asking yourself what does EMG stand for? It turns out that the only people who know the answer to that question is them, and they are keeping the meaning under lock and key. However, they do enjoy hearing your guesses. With the element of mystery behind their name it is only to be expected that you can expect the unexpected when attending an EMG show. They are a rock fusion band with a jam band aspect you never know what they are going to do during their show. There are many improvised aspects from the music to who is playing with them. We talk about his dilemma between going to college to make his family happy despite not finding fulfillment in college or pursue his asperation of becoming a rapper. With the philosophy that he could always go back to school but only had the present to chase after his dream of performing. This decision was reached by never wanting to have to ask himself “What if?” His clothing line of Books VS. Beats was born and helped to go viral by funk and soul group Tank and the Bangas wearing them in a video. Comedian, Granison Crawford hangs out on Uncontained. Granison has been doing stand-up for about 1 and a half years, but when you see him on stage you may get the feeling that he has been doing stand-up for years because he has a strong comedic voice and is able to bring himself in to his comedy by pulling his material from real life experiences. In addition to comedy Granison is also an actor, writer, creator, and voiceover artist. Granison has appeared on Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, and in many commercials for Nike, Comcast and Credit Karma. Recently he was the voice of Brandon the stoned Lava monster in the animated video, “Monster on the Street” from Seriously.TV. Granison created an open mic called The League of Comedy every Wednesday and an All-Star Show the first Tuesday of every month in Sherman Oaks, California. I had the privilege of sitting down with Eddie Towner, John Silas, Abraham Castañeda 3 of the 4 musicians behind creating the score for Dragon Ball Z Light of hope, A live action version of the anime classic. Light of Hope is on the way to full blown viral status receiving 2.3 million plays in just 2 weeks. We talk about some of the challenges that they had to work through, including staying true to the original Dragon Ball Z to not alienate the loyal fan base, and writing the score to capture the emotions of the scene with music.
