This episode of Uncontained happened completely by chance. It is not that often that that you run in to an American Idol contestant standing in line at the local grocery store, but that is exactly how I met Rocky Peter. Rocky made it to the group rounds of American Idol, spoke and performed on the Nobel Peace Prize Forum and the 2016 Rio Olympics, but he had to overcome a lot to achieve what he has so far. Born in America, he was abandoned by his father at the age of 2 in Nigeria and enslaved as a child. The only escape Rocky had was singing in the fields. After years of being underfed, drinking water from potholes and losing his older brother to malaria, Rocky escaped enslavement and returned to America.Rocky attended UC Riverside and received a degree in biological science. After graduating Rocky found himself homeless. While he was living on the street he was given a guitar from a coffee shop owner who saw promise in his musical ability.
