On this very special episode of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO and in celebration of Alan Silvestri's recent 70th birthday (March 26th), guest host, Tim Burden, shines the spotlight on the music of Alan Silvestri.  During the first part of the show, Tim Burden puts together a little montage, which he lovingly calls "Silvestri Snared", highlighting one of Silvestri's favourite percussive devices. Afterwards, Tim presents a previously unheard composer commentary. On today's new episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, I begin a four-part series dedicated to my favourite scores from the past ten years.  On part one I’ll be talking about and playing music from my number 20 – 16 favourite scores of the past decade.  You'll be hearing music from such composers as Andy Hull, Robert McDowell, Marco Beltrami, James Newton Howard, Christopher Willis, Theodore Shapiro and Jonny Greenwood.  Selecting the scores for these shows was an interesting exercise. I had to go back through all my best-of lists since 2010, listen to all the top 5 scores from those years and then pick my 20 favourites. Putting them in order was the toughest part because, in all honesty, I love all of these scores featured in these shows. I first discovered her eclectic program when it was on the RadioNowhere network where it debuted back in 2009. Her month show brought me much joy and I discovered a lot of music I had never heard before AND I even stole a few ideas from her show for myself. For instance, when I was on WROCK Radio I presented a segment called the “John Williams Score of the Week.” Well, that was completely ripped off from Ley’s monthly John Barry segment on her show. Sadly in 2017, RadioNowhere shut down and FILMIC didn’t have a home. Fortunately, Ley began broadcasting her shows on Mixcloud. Back in the fall of 2019, I was losing Brandon Shea-Mutala’s excellent BREAKING THE WAVES program and I immediately put out the call to Ley to see if she was interested in joining CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO to fill the spot. Danny Elfman’s score for the 1995 psychological thriller DOLORES CLAIBORNE was recently released as a deluxe edition from Varese Sarabande Records and Jason will be playing a suite from that album.  The show finishes with a tribute to engineer Tim Boyle who sadly died in December 2019.
