Passion Sunday: A Most Unusual Day in the Life of a Most Unusual King
25/03/2018 Duration: 17minPalm Sunday. What a strange day! We start off with a celebration and end with a catastrophe. Most of us would like to avoid the catastrophic part of the story but the ancient liturgical wisdom of the Church will not let us do that. To get to Easter Sunday we must go to the foot of the cross on Good Friday and reflect on its meaning because here we see God rescuing us from our slavery to Sin and Death. So what does that look like for us today who live in a world gone increasingly mad? Check out what Father Maney has to say about it all and then be ready to contemplate the love of God poured out for you on the cross and give your life to him in willing, humble obedience, despite the uncertainties and darkness of life. Lectionary texts for the liturgy of the Palms are Mark 11.1-11; Psalm 118.1-2, 19-29. Lectionary texts for the liturgy of the Word are Isaiah 50.4-9a; Psalm 31.9-16; Philippians 2.5-11. Ash Wednesday: Sin and Repentance
15/02/2018 Duration: 18minToday marks the beginning of the 40 day period of Lent with its call to repentance, self-denial, prayer, fasting, study, and self-examination. Understanding the two makes all the difference in the world between believing the gospel of Jesus Christ or believing the gospel of self-esteem and self-help. The former leads to life, the latter leads to death. Hear how Father Maney develops this and resolve to embrace the Good News of Jesus Christ during this Lenten season and beyond. Lectionary texts for today are Joel 2.1-2, 12-17; Psalm 51; 2 Corinthians 5.20b-6.10; Matthew 6.1-6, 16-21.
