  • S8 Ep12: Oscar Rewind: Atonement

    06/06/2025 Duration: 01h22min

We're back baby! We've got five new Best Picture nominees to talk about and this season kicks off with the hauntingly beautiful, Atonement. • S8 Ep10: Conversations with Oscar: Nickel Boys

    01/03/2025 Duration: 01h26min

Just when we thought we had our final rankings pretty much in the bag, Nickel Boys comes and changes everything. RaMell Ross's living piece of art took us all by surprise and moved us in ways we never expected. The performances were extraordinary, but the heart of the piece was in the direction and camera work. We'll be angrily shaking our fists for years to come that this didn't receive more nominations. Another year in the books, tell us your final rankings! Let us know on Twitter, Instagram or Threads! • S8 Ep9: Conversations with Oscar: I'm Still Here

    27/02/2025 Duration: 59min

As we start to wrap up this Oscar season, we look at another Best International Feature nominee, the "firm" 'I'm Still Here' from Brazil captured our hearts with its beautiful performances and shook up our final ranks so close to the big night. We hope it is obvious that this is our preferred International Feature of the two nominated for Best Picture and hope it is yours too. What did you think of I'm Still Here? • S8 Ep8: Conversations with Oscar: A Complete Unknown

    24/02/2025 Duration: 01h08min

If you wanted someone to rave about this film, it ain't us babe. We left James Mangold's Bob Dylan biopic feeling very whelmed. We are forever team Timmy, but this movie waded in the shallow end the whole time and never let in too deep and thats all we wanted to do. What did you think? Is it worthy of its eight nominations? • S8 Ep7: Conversations with Oscar: The Brutalist

    20/02/2025 Duration: 01h32min

The Brutalist left us a house divided. While we all were impressed by the cinematography, the performances and other aspects of the movie, the main question of "is it the journey or the destination?", left us standing confusingly on both sides of the track. When we disagree on things, we usually end up having the best conversation, so buckle up and tell us what you thought of The Brutalist. Let us know on Twitter, Instagram or Threads! • S8 Ep6: Conversations with Oscar: Anora

    17/02/2025 Duration: 01h16min

Sean Baker's Anora took us all by surprise. Mickey Madison gives the titular character so much more than she is written and the screwball comedy of the second act was actually laugh out loud funny. However, we all agree that it should be industry standard/required that an intimacy coordinator be present on all sets for which one is necessary. Listen to all of thoughts on this and more! What did you think of Anora? Let us know on Twitter, Instagram or Threads! Listen to the soundtrack, track played All The Things She Said by t.A.T.u. • S8 Ep5: Conversations with Oscar: The Substance

    12/02/2025 Duration: 01h21min

"Have you ever dreamed of a better version of yourself?" The Substance asks just how far will you go for youth and beauty. It critiques the pressure society puts on people, especially women, to be perfect. It also put us through the paces. Between the body horror, and the sound design the three of us were quite queasy while watching this, but that doesn't stop us from admiring the performances, the production design and the criminally not nominated sound design. Coralie Fargeat, we're keeping our eyes peeled for your next venture. What did you think of The Substance? Let us know on Twitter, Instagram or Threads! • S8 Ep4: Conversations with Oscar: Wicked

    10/02/2025 Duration: 01h38min

Fellow Ozians! Let us forget the "musical" we discussed last and instead, embark on a journey twenty years in the making. At its heart, Wicked is a story of friendship and who better to break it down and talk about it with than three best friends? Grab your besties finger and hold tight as we gush over the production design, costumes and casting. As well as criticize some of the lighting and directorial choices. By the time we're done, you'll forget another musical was even nominated. What did you think of Wicked? Let us know on Twitter, Instagram or Threads! • S8 Ep3: Conversations with Oscar: Emilia Pérez

    05/02/2025 Duration: 01h18min

It is rare that we truly despise a movie. We can usually find something we can spotlight, be it a performance, the costumes, or perhaps the cinematography. Not since Vice have we had such loud, hot angry thoughts. Emilia Pérez is the embodiment of what films should NOT be. Listen to us discuss how disappointed we are in this film and let us know what you thought of one of the most controversial movies of the year. Find us on Twitter, Instagram or Threads! • S8 Ep2: Conversations with Oscar: Conclave

    03/02/2025 Duration: 01h09min

From the sands of Arrakis, to the secret turmoil of the lives of the most powerful men in the Catholic Church. Conclave served us some of the best actors of their generation throwing shade at each other while being lit and framed in some of the most beautiful shots of the year. Although somehow, this film is missing an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography. Truly blasphemous. What did you think of Conclave? Let us know on Twitter, Instagram or Threads! • S8 Ep1: Conversations with Oscar: Dune: Part Two

    29/01/2025 Duration: 01h08min

Lisan al Gaib! Dune's triumphant return to the theaters far exceeded every expectation we had, elevating the already spectacular legacy Denis Villeneuve crafted with part one. The story and the production were as epic as the scope of the desert it was set in. While we are devastated by the small amount of nominations (We see you Denis Villeneuve, we see you!) we are so happy to start this season off with one of our favorite films from last year. Spice is Life! We're just getting started on this seasons Best Picture nominees. Be on the lookout for our thoughts on the other contenders and our recap of the big night! • S7 Ep232: Oscar Rewind: Slumdog Millionaire

    29/11/2024 Duration: 01h35min

Hi friends! We're closing out 2024 with a great Best Picture winner, and an episode that couldn't follow a linear thought if it tried. This season of our Oscar Rewind series was a mixed bag for us, but we all agree that of the films nominated, Slumdog Millionaire deserved the big win. We'll be back in early 2025 for the return of our Conversations with Oscar series! *We experienced some technical difficulties during recording, so if things feel repetitive or even more jumbled than our usual mess, please forgive us. • S7 Ep231: Oscar Rewind: The Reader

    22/11/2024 Duration: 01h33min

Sympathize with a nazi? No thanks! The Reader left us puzzled about what the film makers wanted us to feel. The movie has powerhouse performances all around, and we enjoyed the non-linear timeline, but we couldn't necessarily get behind feeling bad for someone who became a nazi because they couldn't read? They seduced a child because they couldn't read? Like we said, no thanks. What did you think of The Reader? Let us know on Twitter and Instagram! Listen to the score Read the script Listen to our other episodes we talked about - An Education, Call Me By Your Name, All Quiet On The Western Front, Game of Thrones, Moonlight, War Horse, Anatomy Of A Fall Check out the Innocence Project Hugh Jackman's opening number at the Oscars Listen to Craig Ferguson's podcast Theme music by RomanBelov    #TheReader #BestPicture #BestDirector #BestActress #BestAdaptedScreenplay #BestCinematography #StephenDaldry #KateWinslet #Oscars2009 #2009Oscars #AcademyAwards #Oscars

  • S7 Ep230: Oscar Rewind: Milk

    15/11/2024 Duration: 01h26min

"My name is Harvey Milk, and I deserve a better Biopic!" Did we get that right? While we love what this film is about and appreciate it for being included in the conversation in the 2009 Season, we couldn't help but feel like this wasn't doing justice to Harvey Milk. It's hard to watch a movie about human rights when its cast is riddled with abusers (although to be fair, not all were known abusers at the time of making this movie...something about hindsight being 20/20?) The script felt more like an overview of a Wikipedia page than an in depth look at the mans life and legacy. If you're going to do the biopic Oscar fodder, at least do it well. • S7 Ep229: Oscar Rewind: Frost/Nixon

    08/11/2024 Duration: 58min

The film adaptation of this stage hit, proved to be a powerhouse. The performances by such a stacked cast were phenomenal and led by the actors who brought down the house night after night on Broadway. Frost/Nixon succeeds because it keeps itself boxed in. It doesn't linger, or expound in unnecessary areas. We found watching this during the political climate to be an added layer to the experience. What did you think of the girl fight Frost/Nixon? • S7 Ep228: Oscar Rewind: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

    01/11/2024 Duration: 01h38min

Can Brad Pitt act? We’re starting this new season of our Oscar Rewind series asking the hard-hitting questions. We all agree that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a sweeping heartbreaking journey, with beautiful cinematography and a gorgeous score, but is the leading man the best man for the job? Are some of us blinded by our lascivious sixteen-year-old selves? Listen now to find out! What did you think of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? Let us know on Twitter and Instagram! • S7 Ep227: Oscar Rewind: The Hurt Locker

    30/08/2024 Duration: 01h11min

Well well well, we find ourselves here again at the end of the road. We've been gazing back at this strange group of nominees and sometimes it's hard to see the Oscars we know today in the nominations of the past. The 2010 Best Picture winner, The Hurt Locker, was explosive-pun intended. A woman finally won for Best Director and it took home a lot of other awards that night, however, almost 15 years later we found ourselves asking why? Listen as we wrap up this part of the season and share our final rankings. Also, stay tuned for a special surprise at the end of today's episode! 23/08/2024 Duration: 01h25min

In our penultimate episode this season we are taking a look at Up in the Air. It's a fine film, perhaps even a good film. However, it did not stand a chance to our ramblings this week. Sure, we talked about this movie and what we liked and what we didn't like but… we also planned our weddings. Are we engaged? That doesn't matter. You get to see a beautiful example of the human experience in just a few minutes only to be reminded that what we think is the limit of what our lives can be is really only the surface.
