On this week...I'm playing the tunes that are in my current rotation. There has been many amazing releases as of late. We start with a track of SAAY's new album, "Claassic," which is an absolute knockout of an album. SAAY is a former member of the disbanded girl group "Evol," and since has thrived as a powerful, yet smooth, RnB solo artist. On this week...It's all about the relationship between Hip Hop/RnB and K-pop. I've seen an amazing revolution in the Korean Hip Hop and RnB scene just in the last 3 or 4 years and that has definitely had a residual effect on the K-pop scene as a whole. There seems to be a more authentic hip-hop sound injecting itself into even the most mainstream of K-pop songs. Which is great! Whereas in the past "hip hop" in K-pop often seemed more of a characterization, it has now evolved to a level of understanding that feels more reverent and authentic. While there are still very many issues of understanding Hip Hop and the appropriation of the black community in Korean music, in my opinion, it's in a much better place now than say 5 years ago. Rather than having a "rapper" or two in the group, there's some legitimate lyricists in most groups now. There's new crop of young artists that have grown up with hip-hop being the mainstream sound. All this must factor into this change. So that's what this episode is about. Just

On this week...It's a truly classic style KME Mixtape. A bunch of songs across a variety of genres and sounds. We start it off with some electronic goodness from KME All-Stars Peggy Gou, Yaeji, Cifika, and more. Then we go into some hip hop, including some amazingly produced beats. On this week...we go a little bit off the normal path. The reason I started this show, and KME in general, was to dig a little bit deeper into the Korean music scene. This episode I wanted to dig deeper into the question of "what is Kpop?" I've always had a hard time making the distinction of what elements are needed to constitute a "Kpop" song. Or if there is a distinction to be made in the first place. Either way, this week I chose songs I felt really blurred that line. They can be considered Kpop and gain mainstream success, or they can be considered as indie, alternative, or something completely different. All in all, they're songs that I think push the limits of the Kpop and what Kpop could be. Enjoy! P.S. On this week...It's a very chill show. Crush is, and forever will be, one of my favorites. At least top 3 all time. So this whole show is based off his sounds and his new single, "Bittersweet." Every song on this episode has a smoothness and groove to it that reminds me of Crush and his style. We have joints from the likes of Owen Ovadoz, Woogie, Khundi Panda, and more. On this week...there has been so much good stuff coming out it's hard to keep up. We've got new stuff from Hoody, Oceanfromtheblue, Penomeco, and more. This episode sort of sandwiches some hard hip-hop tracks in between some really groove-driven, soulful RnB joints. Of those RnB joints are two tracks off Oceanfromtheblue's new mixtape, "LOVELIKEBOYZANDGIRLS," which is amazing. I barely came across this artist recently and have been loving the work so far. On this week...It's an 80s vibe! I feel like I've done this before...but either way, there's too many good 80s inspired tracks, so it definitely won't be the last. On this week...we start off as a normal episode with some hip hop, RnB, and indie joints. Great stuff from the likes of Jay Park, Punchnello, Yeseo, and etc. But we end a bit differently. I actually DJ'ed house music back in the day and have been wanting to do a mix of house/dance tracks by Korean artists for quite some time now. This week, I finally did a 40 minute mix featuring some of my favorite house originals and remixes, all of and/or by Korean artists. This includes Yaeji, Peggy Gou, Cifika, U-Noo, Deepshower, plus many more. I'm very rusty, so please excuse the quality of the transitions, but I had fun nonetheless. On this week...I've been in a hip hop mood, so it's one of those. I was driving around bumpin' Kid Milli and Jindoggae the other day and it really influenced this episode. There has been some amazing releases by record label Hi-Lite lately. So many good artists on there, including one of my favorite MCs, G2. In addition to JUSTHIS & Paloalto's latest album, "4 the Youth," which I've been stuck on, they've added new releases from YunB and Reddy. So I decided to play a few of my favorites from the Hi-Lite crew, new and old. With that said, this is a pretty heavy hip hop episode with a few RnB joints mixed in. Highlights include a new Crush feature on American producer Cavalier's new album, a dope Jorja Smith remix by Korean producer/songwriter Duplex G, and Jindoggae's "OOP OOP," which hypes me up every time. Also note the first track by KME All-Star B. Jyun. He was one of the very first Korean "soundcloud artists" I ever got into and he's come out with some new stuff lately (which I will play very soon). On this week...I was torn between 90s hip hop vibes and deep synth 80s vibes. In the end, EXID and their new single, "Lady" won out and this episode is rife with that 90s inspired sound which has been hot the last year or so, but even more recently because of Bruno Mars/Cardi B. With that said, I enjoyed putting this one together. Anytime I can get a theme to rally around, I relish the opportunity. I did a classic 90s episode of the KME Mixtape a while back which was fun. I'll put a link below in case you missed it. I was initially torn because of the epic comeback of Primary & Anda and their 4 song release. Anda is an old favorite of mine and it's great to see her back and in the best way. I threw in their track, "Moonlight" at the end of this episode, which may be a good lead in to next week. On this week...We have some new stuff from the Marylin Monderland crew (Junny, Yelloasis, Holymoley! etc.), who have been killing it with releases lately. Also have the new Dean remix of "Dante's Creek" from rap duo THEY. At this point, it simply a guarantee that if Dean is involved, its solid gold. He has risen to a whole other level in the last couple of years. We've also got some new stuff from the ladies. On this week...I did my best to switch it up. Every time I feel like I get into a comfortable space with this show, I know I have to mix it up. It's easy to get caught up in what's popular now. On this week...This has to be one of my favorites. Amazing tracks from amazing artists. Penomeco has been one of my favorite MCs and his new release "Good Morning" feat. Car, The Garden is already on the Best of 2018 list. We also have new stuff from Loco, Hanhae, Reddy, JUSTHIS & Paloalto, and that amazing "Gyopo Rap" remix featuring Los, Jay Park, G2, and Jessi. Add a bunch of banging soundcloud gems in there and this episode has to be one of the best yet!
