Episode 4 Coach Joe Moglia
16/09/2014 Duration: 16minThe Coach- Who is Coach Joe Moglia? Some might know him as the former CEO of TD Ameritrade (yes, that TD Ameritrade). Many people might be satisfied after running a Fortune 1000 company, but not Coach Moglia. After years of being away from the game he loved Coach Moglia made the decision to return to football. Coach Moglia is now the head coach at Costal Carolina University. In his first season Coach Moglia led the Chanticleer’s to an 8-5 record and in his second year that record improved to 12-3. Now in his third year Coach Moglia is off to a hot start winning his first three games. Episode 3 Coach Dom Starsia
16/09/2014 Duration: 17minThe Coach- Coach Dom Starsia was a football player at Brown University when he was first introduced to lacrosse. He has been the head coach at the University of Virginia for twenty- three seasons. During his time at the University of Virginia the men’s lacrosse program has won four national championships and has appeared in the final four on thirteen occasions. A Quote- “Nothing is easy and nothing does itself; character and action are everything.” -Col. Washington A. Roebling Adversity- During the 2011 season Coach Starsia had to make the difficult decision to dismiss two of the best players from the team. The team understood that tough decisions must be made. In that void the team was able to come together and new team leaders were able to emerge. That year the team went on to win the national championship. Episode 2 Coach Vorgang
16/09/2014 Duration: 12minThe Coach - Coach Vorgang began his career as the head lacrosse coach at Niskayauna in 1993 at the age of twenty- three. Prior to Coach Vorgang’s arrival the school had never had a lacrosse team. Since the beginning the program Coach Vorgang has won multiple Capital District High School Lacrosse Championships as well as appearing in the New York State Championship. On July 1, 2009 Coach Vorgang was inducted into the Adirondack Chapter of US Lacrosse Hall of Fame. A Quote- Team does not believe in quote, but prefers mottos. Last years motto was “be better.” Adversity- Coping with loss off the field is real life. When a player experienced the loss of a love one off the field Coach took the opportunity to teach the young men about real life. Many of the players on Coach Vorgang’s team had never been to a funeral, but Coach believes it is important for his players to support one another both on and off the field. Yet, instead of throwing in the towel Miller went out there and one the fight. The lesson is not to despair when faced with a challenge the best athletes are the resilient ones. Drill Tips-Focus on competition simulation. Athletes get the most out of drills when they are envisioning themselves playing in game type situations forcing them to perform at their peak. Recommendations for Parents and Coaches-Eliminate standing around. By creating stations athletes increase the number of repetitions creating more of the muscle memory needed for game time success.
