Rico King is an American documentary filmmaker who is putting his lens on the people and communities impacted by gun violence in Toronto. Rico King is also a film producer, director, screenwriter & actor best known for producing Tears in the Bayou. In 2016, Rico was awarded the prestigious Best Film and Best Documentary at the Mount Vernon Film Festival for his film Down in the Hole, a documentary about police brutality and life in Baltimore, MD. In 2017 he then also received the prestigious diamond award for his documentary Tears in the Bayou along with two more awards for a short film he shot for SAG-AFTRA called With Dad. Having been a resident of all the neighborhoods in his films, Rico traditionally dedicates his characters to real life people he knew or events he experienced or witnessed. In addition to working as a film producer and actor, Rico King is also an entrepreneur and community activist.

He was the grandson of an undercover cop in India, but York region is not India. By day, he was a public school student and by night he went to medresa - Islamic school. It was the perfect storm for an identity crisis and his was a tornado. When Mubin was shamed for a common teenage blunder, he found himself in his Muslim faith. His quest for Allah took him overseas where he came face-to-face with the Taliban. They were just what he was looking for... at least this is what he thought. A belief that came crashing down with the second plane on 9/11. It took 2 years in Syria - studying with Sufi Muslims, to correct his views and bring him inline with his purpose.
