Ahead of the launch of his latest Rebus novel 'Rather Be The Devil' Scottish Success have been joined by Ian Rankin.  Ian is one of Scotland's most successful authors and has been a pioneering force in the Tartan Noir genre since he first introduced his Edinburgh detective Rebus to the public nearly 30 years ago.  His trademark gritty crime fiction has lead to comparisons with other Scottish greats such as Robert Louis Stevenson and James Hogg.  Ian explains how his success was anything but overnight and shares with us some of the challenges he was forced to overcome on his road to success.

We are joined on this edition of the Scottish Success podcast by Harry Benson. Harry is one of Scotland's most celebrated photographers with his iconic shots capturing many of the most important moments and faces from the past fifty years on both sides of the pond. He talks to us about his success which is currently being celebrated with an exhibition of his photography on display in the Scottish parliament and shares a few interesting stories about how he has been able to achieve such a fantastic body of work.  [This Podcast was recorded in a busy restaurant with a defective microphone so unfortunately there is a lot of background noise and some buzzing.]

In this podcast the Scottish Success team are joined by Scotland's contemporary classical tenor Martin Aelred.  Born to a musical family in the West Coast of Scotland we hear how he started playing music from a young age, joined his first band at 13 and how he was later inspired to move from contemporary music to study opera singing.   As well as touring the world for the last six year, Martin has found time to perform for numerous charities.  This resulted in him recently being personally requested by the Dalia Lama to perform for him at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall.

In this podcast Scottish Success has been joined by Scottish actor Scott Kyle. Although he has recently been filming for the latest series of Outlander Scott also tells us all about his route into acting. A career that was first launched on the stage with Scott adapting and staring in the award winning play “I’m no a Billy I’m a Tim” and has now lead him into roles on both the big and small screen. He also talks to us about his ‘day job’ as  the artistic director of the Bathgate Regal theatre and how he continues to work with actors looking to better themselves and shares some of his thoughts and tips on creating your own pathway to success.

In this podcast the Scottish Success team are joined by Scotland's first female Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick.  We hear how she reached such a position of high office as well as who inspired her success and what challenges she faced throughout her life and career. In May 2011 Tricia Marwick became only the fourth Presiding Officer of Scotland and the first female to hold the role.  It was a position of responsibility that the Fife politician could never have imagined when she first started out in grass roots politics in response the miner’s strikes.  We caught up with her in Fife where she still lives to discuss her success.
