Synopsis
English version of the article entitled “Strumenti per la crescita economica: Le Zone Economiche Speciali” written by the same author and published on the number 1 - January 2018 of the review "Dossier Unione Europea - Studi e Ricerche")
The contribution that the institution of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) can offer, to allow Italy's economic recovery, it’s important, as they have already shown some examples at international and European level. In fact, the SEZs, for the greater ability to catalyze foreign direct investment through the grant of tax benefits, financial, administrative and infrastructural, have proved an effective instrument of economic acceleration, compared to the classical model of customs free zone, thus being more attractive to the business community. The new way of thinking about the economic development and the business community's relationship with society fits well with the new approach to the concept of SEZs, which is proposed by the Author in this ebook, in which another role attributable to the SEZs can be that of a sort of institutional laboratory (so-called "experimental territorial laboratory"), to check whether the policies adopted within them in commercial, financial and entrepreneurial sectors can be extended later to the whole national territory. The introduction of these formidable instruments of economic acceleration in Italy, would change the country's role in the Mediterranean: not just "gateway to Europe" but fulcrum and flywheel of the economy euro-Mediterranean.
