At this point in the Gospel of Mark, the religious leaders are doing everything they can to discredit and remove Jesus entirely. They approach Him with a number of difficult questions that touch on both political and theological issues. These questions have the potential to divide the crowd and pique the interest of Roman authorities implying that an insurrection is in the making.
