  • It's Better to Disarm Than to Strongarm

    13/04/2021 Duration: 08min

In any conversation where there is a potential for disagreement, it’s tempting to try to force – strongarm – the other person in to compliance or agreement. While that sometimes works, it’s not generally the best way to gain agreement and cooperation. It’s generally better to disarm the other person – to take away the issues that might cause a confrontation – than to strongarm – to use force to “make” the other person do what you want done. In this episode, I’ll share a specific example of where and how this idea applied. Additional Leadership Resources Take our free DISC Assessment. • Two Sides of the Need to Be Heard and Understood

    09/03/2021 Duration: 09min

It is important to remember that people need to be heard and understood and that the better we do that for others, the more likely they are to buy-in to what we are trying to achieve. We also need to beware of how our need to be heard and understood can become a challenge. This week, I’m looking at this other side – the leader’s side – of the need to be heard and understood. • You Can Never Be Too Clear

    12/01/2021 Duration: 08min

As George Bernard Shaw said: “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” As a leader, it’s easy to tell people something one time or send a single email and assume that they got the message. If you want to be a great communicator, that’s a bad plan. In this episode I’ll offer some tips for making sure you understand other people and they understand you. Remember: you can never be too clear. Additional Leadership Resources Take our free DISC Assessment. Download our free report, The First 7 Things to Do When You Get Promoted. Follow us on Facebook.
