Episode 400! Average is Over!
13/04/2021 Duration: 15minBJ Palmer would agree with this: Our job is not to fix bones or 'crack' backs or to be a spine doctor. My function is to have that patient reach their fullest potential by maximizing their brain and nerve system. Even DD Palmer said that chiropractic is founded on TONE! Fixing backs is average. Maximizing their nerve system is exceptional!

Episode 399: Take off your tie!
06/04/2021 Duration: 07minDr Dick Santo was one of my mentors in my early days as a chiropractor (this is my 31st year!). He challenged me in ways that I so very appreciate, and helped shape a young, inexperienced recent graduate into a chiropractor with a mission. Listen to this inspiring talk about what Dr Santo said to me during lunch one day that revolutionized my thinking.

Episode 398: "All I ever needed to know I learned in kindergarten."
30/03/2021 Duration: 10minThe title of this podcast comes from a 1986 book by Robert Fulgrum. Ultimately, the lesson is this: keep it simple. LIke Ram Dass says, "Be here now." Live in the moment. Joy doesn't come from big expensive things or reaching incredible financial heights. It comes from being, it comes from joy that is deep within us all, bubbling out of us when we do the right things. Live the right life. Stand by your principles but without judgement and finger-pointing. We can make a difference, each one of us, one person at a time.

Episode 397: Ever Hear of the Behavioral Immune System?
23/03/2021 Duration: 13minThe Behavioral Immune System is one of several parts of our immune system, according to author Dr. Norman Doidge (The Brain That Changes Itself). The innate and acquired responses, our skin (that protects us from invasion), and our behavior! The 'disgust' response prevents us from eating things that smell/taste/look bad. It changes our behavior! What else improves our immune system? Listening to positive podcasts or you tube videos! Reading spiritual or motivation books. Meditation and prayer. Yoga, QiGong, and even just walking your dog. Boost your immune system everyday!

Episode 396: Joy is built in!
16/03/2021 Duration: 10minWhat greater joy can you have than to help a pregnant momma have a natural delivery? What greater joy can you have than to help a baby who is not well get back to health? What greater joy can you have than watching a child with Autism have better eye contact, better social communication, less tantrums? I can think of no other profession in the world that has joy built in to it. All you need is your training, your hands and your heart and joy is inevitably seen across our practice member's faces! What greater joy?

Episode 395: "Three Big Questions"
09/03/2021 Duration: 14minThree big questions to ask yourself about your purpose: "Is it big enough, Am I uniquely positioned to pull it off, Am I passionate about it?" Does your mission keep you up at night, thinking of ways to accomplish it? I'd like to add a 4th question: Can you see yourself doing this for the rest of your life? These concepts are adapted from Fred Swaniker's article in medium, found here: https://medium.com/@FredSwaniker/resist-that-calling-it-s-probably-not-your-purpose-in-life-1dd33a297185

Episode 394: Creating a judgement-free zone
02/03/2021 Duration: 15min"The safest way to travel on chiropractic hi-ways" is a brief story in one of BJ's pamphlets. It is BJ's way of saying to create a judgement free zone in our practice. Kids on the spectrum should not be looked at as disabled but 'differently-abled'; a non-verbal child isn't non-verbal...they just don't speak OUR language. When you create a judgement free zone, kids on the spectrum feel ok to be themselves and this helps them reach their fullest potential. All kids feel welcomed no matter what their label. That is a happy safe place!

Episode 393: The 'Noom'- channel your fear into energy
23/02/2021 Duration: 10minIt is totally normal to have fear. It's what you do when you feel the fear that really counts. Dr. Ian Grassam told a story about The 'Noom'---the anxiety you might feel before a major sporting event or stage production that you are playing in. He said when you feel those 'butterflies' in your stomach or chest, that is called the 'Noom'...a word that means to channel your fear... into performance!

Episode 392: Evolution or De-evolution?
16/02/2021 Duration: 55minIs humanity evolving or de-evolving? There are 2 sides to this story. First, we are constantly evolving in what humanity produces, from creating the wheel in ancient Babylon, to refrigeration and toilets, and now to iPhones and laptops and Amazon today. Incredible things we have produced! But are we happier? More satisfied? Do we feel safer? Or are we becoming ever more disconnected? What do you think? This talk was originally posted in 2018 and recorded at the 2018 ICPA Family Wellness Summit.

Episode 391: Three beginnings
09/02/2021 Duration: 13minMy three favorite beginnings: Newborns, pregnant mommas, and children on the spectrum. Our health care system has failed our society in providing health. Chiropractic gives newborns, pregnant mommas, and children with Autism a new beginning. We change their trajectories, helping newborns have a better start, assisting pregnant women to experience a more holistic birth, and watching children with Autism reach their fullest potential.

Episode 390: Will your future self thank you?
02/02/2021 Duration: 14min"What decision can you make now that your future self will thank you for?" Les Brown asked that question in a recent video and it stopped me in my tracks. He then said, "the only thing that separates me and you is the time I spend." What time are you investing in you, in your family, in your future? What can you do NOW that your future self will thank you for? This is a BIG idea!

Episode 389: What is your "Something?"
26/01/2021 Duration: 14minEveryone has 'that something' inside of them, that drives them, that motivates and inspires them. What is your 'something'? For me, it's kids, especially those with special needs. What is your passion? What do you tend to study more, focus on, read more, and when you discuss that topic, you feel it, really feel it in your gut? That is your calling, your 'something.' Find it, hold onto it, run with it!

Episode 388: Chiropractic is Founded on Neurology
19/01/2021 Duration: 12minBJ Palmer's "Slip on the Snowy Sidewalk" does not mention chiropractic's function as relieving pain but releasing pressure on nerves, restoring mental impulse flow, restoring health. DD Palmer's 1910 text says on the first page that chiropractic is founded on tone! DD and BJ were the first chiropractic functional neurologists, before they ever understood how far reaching that thought process was!

Episode 387: Disruption
12/01/2021 Duration: 23minTo disrupt means to interrupt, with hopes to cause radical change. Disruptive innovation is a concept that we need to apply more in chiropractic, to change people's thinking from allopathic to salutogenic, from sickness care to wellness care, from pain to brain. One of my favorite statement's is: I am not a back doctor or a spine doctor; I am a brain and nerve system specialist.' Teach our patients what we really do! This podcast originally aired in May 2018.

Episode 386: The adjustment is just starting!
05/01/2021 Duration: 13minWhen you deliver a chiropractic adjustment, it doesn't end the moment your hand or Activator Adjusting Instrument leaves the person. That's when it starts! Science has shown amazing changes both at the sight of the adjustment and in the brain post adjustment that lasts for minutes and even hours. The adjustment is a like a gift that you are giving that builds like deposits in a savings account. Each adjustment adds more health, more life, more vitality into that person. So when someone asks you, "is that it?" Your answer should be, "the adjustment is just starting!"

Episode 385: Lessons learned from the Canadian Rockies
29/12/2020 Duration: 12minResilience, grit, fortitude. That is what 2020 has taught us. This has been a strange year, but we can take a lesson from some of the hardiest animals that live in the Canadian Rockies. Imagine an insect that thrives in bitter cold glacier holes, or a frog that allows itself to be put in frozen state by releasing an antifreeze-like substance for the winter and then thaws out in the spring? That is grit! That is tough. And that is the lesson 2020 has forced upon us. Here's to a healthier 2021!

Episode 384: Starting a Chiropractic Practice Q & A
22/12/2020 Duration: 23minWant to know how to open and run a pediatric chiropractic practice ? Dr Rubin has successfully done this twice, once in 1990 in Cresskill, NJ and the other in 2001 in Marietta, GA. In this Q & A format, Dr Rubin answers questions from senior chiropractic students during a chat session and explains the do's and don'ts of starting a practice, especially applicable to these pandemic times.

Episode 383: Marketing during the pandemic
15/12/2020 Duration: 27minThe 5 S's of Marketing during the pandemic. 2020's been a crazy year for sure, but the right marketing strategy can help any chiropractor succeed, pandemic or no pandemic. It's time to master the 5 S's, and do each one super well so that your 2021 has your practice teeming with kids and pregnant mommas!

Episode 382: Left brain vs. Right brain
08/12/2020 Duration: 19minMajor controversy: is there really a left brain vs a right brain? The answer according to the research is most definitely yes! Now of course both sides of the brain are important and working all the time, but there are clear left vs right brain functions (Broca's area for example) and in this episode we dissect what are the significant characteristics of each side.

Episode 381: Change the world or change yourself?
01/12/2020 Duration: 11min"If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change!" Wayne Dyer said this years ago, and it is more relevant today than ever. The goal isn't to change the world necessarily, but to change you, then change the one person in front of you, then the next person in front of you.
