Tufts Student Ordered to Be Released
10/05/2025 Duration: 39minFriday, a federal judge in Vermont ordered the Trump Administration release Rümeysa Öztürk, the Tufts University student who was arrested by ICE agents in Somerville in March. Öztürk has been held for six weeks at an ICE detention center in Louisiana. Federal officials claim the grad student engaged in activities in support of Hamas but failed to supply any evidence of the claims except an op-ed piece Öztürk co-wrote for the Tufts student newspaper that urged the school to do more to advocate against Israeli aggression in Gaza.
