An all English episode with Mona Eltahawy and Flavia Dzodan! We contacted Mona asap after the fallout of her decision to withdraw from a public lecture at the Amsterdam cultural venue and debate centre De Balie on the 24th of April. Mona, an award-winning columnist, writer on Arab and Muslim issues and global feminism, was scheduled to give a talk on The Value of Female Rage which she cancelled due to a controversial discussion the centre hosted where the deportation of muslims form The Netherlands was discussed. De moslimgemeenschappen werden geshockt door terroristische aanslagen op twee moskeeën in Nieuw-Zeeland waarbij 51 mensen werden gedood, waaronder kleine kinderen. We zijn in rouw en verdrietig. Mariam nodigde twee van haar vriendinnen thuis uit om het hierover te hebben.Mariam sprak met Ibtissam Abaaziz, medeoprichter van Meld Islamofobie en promoverend sociologe en met Jamila Faloun, jeugdverpleegkundige en politica voor NIDA partij in Den Haag. An all English episode to your earbuds! This was our first live show abroad, all the way in... Gent, Belgium!Dipsaus Podcast was part of the festival "Women and Children First" in Vooruit. We talked to Kopano Maroga and the ladies Heleen Debeucklaere and Emma-Lee Amponsah of our sister vlog Black Speaks Back. Kopano is a South African artist who had choice words to say about the South African elections and brought an amazing analysis about what decolonisation entails. Heleen and Emma-Lee started Black Speaks Back, a grass-root organisation reclaiming the diverse black narratives in Belgium. They told us more about the struggles in Belgium politically and socially.Even Mariam got burnt a bit for not calling on the phone but preferring voicenotes and texting. We also talked about how we cannot speak of decolonisation without reparations, about colonial Europe, solidarity, White Walkers and there was lots of laughter and love...

Jaaaaa…na twee bonus afleveringen zijn we weer in de studio! Althans, Ebissé en Mariam zitten in Damsko en Anousha in The Big Apple. Dankzij interwebs kunnen we toch gezamenlijk praten met niet één- maar met twee geweldige gasten: Axmed Maxamed van Dance with Pride, een non profit underground organisatie die grassroots initiatieven ondersteund voor de queer community of color en Dino Suhonic van Maruf, een stichting voor de Islamitische LHBTQI+ gemeenschap. Met Axmed en Dino praten we uitgebreid over hun weg naar een veilig thuis, het verschil voor beiden tussen ‘gay’ en ‘queer’, de kracht van een sterke en activistische gemeenschap en de rol van kolonialisme en post kolonialisme in de acceptatie van ‘queerness’ door de Islam. Een belangrijk gesprek waar Mariam zich al weken op heeft verheugd! Ook hebben we het over het kind of neo-liberale Westerse concept ‘in’ en ‘uit de kast’. Ja je leest het goed, kind of. Diasporic Self is an ongoing visual, sonic and dialogic programme and exhibition environment that looks into the meaning, conceptualisation, multiplicities and complexities of the notion of Black Togetherness across Europe. Olave, Amal and Barby talked about black togetherness and it's precarity, the tropes around representation of blackness in general and the need for our own alternative institutions.The exibition dates in Amsterdam's Framer Framed are from 14 December until the 17th of February 2019. Gelukkig hebben we weer een vrouw in de studio! We gaan 2018 afronden met niet zomaar een vrouw. En niet zomaar een vrouw maar Domenica Ghidei. Ze is o.a. lid geweest van het College voor de Rechten van de Mens, lid Raad van Advies ProDemos Huis voor democratie en rechtsstaat, lid Selectiecommissie rechterlijke macht, voorzitter van African Diaspora Policy Centre. Domenica is als 17-jarige gevlucht vanuit Eritrea naar Nederland. In deze aflevering horen jullie ook onze Anousha live vanuit haar kantoor *kuch* slaapkamer *kuch* in NYC! We hebben het met Domenica over haar ongelofelijke reis naar Nederland als 17 jarig meisje, haar passie voor mensenrechten en self-care. Beste Dipsauzers, we sluiten het jaar 2018 af met een bonusaflevering. In deze aflevering gaan we het hebben over de problematische vertaling van Frantz Fanon's 'Peau noire, masques blancs', het witwassen van radicale, zwarte denkers en algeheel gebrek aan bewustwording binnen de Nederlandse uitgeefwereld als het gaat om belangrijke zwarte, radicale schrijvers en denkers. Te gast zijn Grâce Ndjako, Master of Science in Political Science en Master of Arts in Philosophy, ze is auteur, lecturer, filosoof en verbonden aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. En met Amandla Awethu, schrijver, studeert Literary and Cultural Analysis en lid van University of Colour.Donderdag 13 december vond de boekpresentatie van de Nederlandse vertaling het revolutionaire boek van Frantz Fanon "Zwarte huid, Witte Maskers" in De Balie plaats. Na een interventie achter de schermen werd Grâce Ndjako - kenner van het werk van Fanon - op het laatste moment gevraagd om een bijdrage te leveren aan de presentatie...
