Synopsis

Authentic Moments is a show where we share ideas and strategies for personal growth in the practice of parenting. As we raise our children, we grow ourselves. We talk about the importance of being trauma-informed, making sense of our stories, breaking free from our patterns and triggers, finding our authentic voice in parenting, living our truth, befriending our emotions, managing stress, cultivating self-compassion, and mindfulness. It is by gaining deeper self- knowledge, raising our self-awareness, elevating our consciousness, getting closer to our authentic self that we support our children on that very same process of self discovery. New episodes air every Thursday.

  • Domestic Violence and Abuse with Mickie Zada

    01/03/2018 Duration: 01h13min

Mickie Zada  chose to stay in a damaging relationship for 34 years because she thought it was her Calling.  She believed it was her responsibility to keep her husband between the lines. She was not threatened with weapons, was not hospitalized, never called law enforcement and did not file a restraining order against her husband. She was the strong one, the grounded one, the dedicated wife. She was in love. When she left, she wondered (like nearly every abuse survivor) whether she was really abused. So many years were invested in protecting her abuser that she felt guilty defending herself by leaving. • Parenting Peacefully When Triggered (Monthly Special Episode)

    25/01/2018 Duration: 48min

This is our monthly special episode where I co-host the show with another colleague.  We have 3 segments Examples from Our Homes What’s Up with You? Answering listener parenting questions Favorite Finds In the first segment, I tell a story about a delayed Christmas gift I had ordered for my daughter. How she reacted triggered past hurts in me and I was stuck. It is hard to parent peacefully and respond respectfully when our wounds get triggered. Parenting is an emotional job. This experience has not only enabled me to face my own unresolved issues but also it served as a catalyst for me to open up and share a painful story from my past. We often feel like as parents we need to hide our stories, our past. When we share parts of us with our children we invite them into our lives and it gives them a different perspective. After I shared my story, my daughter was touched and the connection between us just got deeper.  Have you ever shared parts of you with your child? How did it go? How did you child respond? W

  • Authentic Parenting | Year in Review

    28/12/2017 Duration: 50min

This is the final episode of the 2017. I don't know about you but I feel like the time is really flying by. It seems like it was just yesterday when I was recording the final episode of the 2016, which is by the way the least downloaded episode of the podcast:) In preparation for this episode I went back and listened to it. It’s a really good one. In it I compiled all of my guests wisdom, their answers to “If you had to go back in time, knowing what you know about motherhood/fatherhood, what would you say to yourself as a new mom/dad?”question. I'm sitting today in December and recording this message I feel like I am always behind 1 or 2 months behind of the calendar year. Okay, looking back   What did the 2017 bring for me and how it was for the podcast?   Growth I had many amazing guests. The podcast has grown. I have grown. The number of listeners have grown. And growth is a good thing. I have changed the cover art for the podcast and I can't be happier. In fact, I have a mug with the logo right now on my
