Host Richard Perry talks with Coady '11 graduate Fr. Shaiju Chacko, who helps coordinate a massive job training program for youth in India. He also contributes to a relief program that followed the monsoon floods of 2014. Colleen describes how the the CHIA tool is used for advocacy. "Recently I worked with two small groups around Antigonish where there was talk of closing their local schools . And we went through the process to assess what the impact would be on the health of their community if their school closed. We didn’t look at the benefits, because this group wanted to keep their school open. They were very surprised to find all the different ways that the school benefited their community that they hadn’t even thought about. It was a very systematic way of helping them. So they can use that information to go ahead and advocate."

Colleen talks about providing training in India, Ghana and Sierra Leone. "Well the work in India was very exciting because it was the first time we had gone overseas with this. We worked with the staff, volunteers and board members of the Association for Social and Health Advancement. We worked for three days to help them create their own assessment tool. After that we went to a very remote rural area and worked with a group of semi-literate women. The ASHA staff and volunteers we had trained did the process and it was phenomenal."

Pamela Johnson, program officer with the International Centre for Women's Leadership at Coady Institute, is interviewed by CBC Radio Cape Breton about her new role at the Institute, and about upcoming programs in the Women's Centre.

Kodwa Tyiso, a graduate of the 2013 Global Change Leaders program at Coady Institute, reflects on the passing of Nelson Mandela. Ms. Tyiso lives in Praetoria, South Africa.

Coady diploma participant Afi Yakubu talks about her advocacy work using film to promote the rights of girls and women in Ghana. She received the 2013 Katherine Fleming International Development award at a ceremony during the annual Coffee with Coady event at StFX University.

Regina Okafor came to St. FX University’s Coady International Institute from Nigeria when she was six months pregnant in 1972, and while studying here, she gave birth to her son. She and the Coady Institute staff weren't quite sure how to handle this, and luckily a local couple stepped up and took care of the boy named Luke `Coady.` The Coady International Institute’s Richard Perry says Regina and Luke are coming back to visit the Muise family for a special re-union over the Canada Day weekend. https://soundcloud.com/coady-international/heartwarming-reunion-at-stfx Luke, since he was born here, is a Canadian citizen who has been in Toronto for about ten years.

Margarita Guajardo of Saltillo, Mexico teaches law at the Technologico de Monterrey. She has her PhD in International Law from Tulane University and a Masters in Economics. She decided to take the popular Advocacy and Citizen Engagement certificate program at Coady International Institute to support her advocacy work in her home country. She spoke in May 2013 with the Coady's Richard Perry just before leaving Canada.

Anuj Jain of Coady International Institute and CS Reddy of APMAS India join host Richard Perry for a discussion of the merits of community-based microfinance.

CBC Radio News interviewed Moussa for a local perspective on recent unrest in his country. Moussa graduated from Coady's 19-week Diploma in Development Leadership program in 2007. He is program co-ordinator with the US African Development Foundation, and lives in Bamako, Mali in West Africa.

Akh Muzakki recently completed the Mobilizing Assets for Community-Driven Development certificate at Coady International Institute. He is a lecturer with the State Islamic University at Sunan Ampel. In an interview with Richard Perry, Muzakki talks about taking lessons from two Nova Scotia communities - St. Andrews and Canso - back to Indonesia. He is excited about spreading what he calls the 'positive virus' of a Coady education.

This husband-and-wife team took the six-month diploma program and went on to successful careers in international development. Ekdawi manages the Middle East/Africa program at the Bank Information Centre. Tadros is a senior facilitator and advocacy specialist with the International Budget Partnership. Both co-facilitated Coady's new Good Governance and Social Accountability Tools certificate course in May 2012.

Marie Delorme, CEO of The Imagination Group in Calgary, Alberta talks about why she became involved with the Indigenous Women in Community Leadership program at Coady International Institute. Ms. Delorme received the Metis Nation Entrepreneurial Leadership Award, and is also a mentor in the Coady program. Its first 12 participants graduated in August 2011.
