Philemon is a fascinating book. At only 335 words it speaks volumes about grace, reconciliation, humility, and ultimately how to handle power.

How do we experience God in the everyday ordinary moments of conflict? Whether interpersonal or with structures and systems God's presence inspires us not to avoid but to step into difficult situations and conversations.

This week our special guest speaker and Job expert Eric Smith from Pillar Seminary unpacks the wisdom in the book of Job. The Proverbial wisdom of "do good get good" gets thrown on it's head when Job does everything right but gets nothing but atrocities in return. The book of Job is necessary because we can all point to times in our life where we did all the right things but got nothing but bad results. What can we learn from a man who did everything right and then lost everything in return? What does Job demand of God? What does God tell Job about why he suffered? And what is Job's response to God in the end? Job is a heavy book. But it speaks right to the heart of living a life of wisdom and selflessness.

What is wisdom? When we think of the wisest person we know many of us wouldn't consider that person the richest, most intelligent, or most successful people we know. Then what is this elusive attritube? Why is it worth pursuing? How do we get it? The book of Proverbs describes wisdom as a skill we can attain. Like a craftsman learning a trade we can learn to be wise regardless of our circumstances. Proverbs also decribes wiisdom as being threaded into the fabric of the universe. Something we can tap into and use to create a good life. Mostly Proverbs puts up a mirror to our life and allows us to self reflect. Where are we wise and where are we foolish? Are you up for doing some challenging inner work with us as we explore this first book of wisdom?

The book of Proverbs is not meant to be read as a 365 day reading plan. It's meant to be read much more slowly and meditatively. Today's goal is to teach you how to read the book of Proverbs and allow it to hold up a mirror to your soul. We also set out to tackle themes in Proverbs like Fear of the Lord, Grace, and being rescued from the tyranny of the urgent.

In the tension of Good Friday and Easter, are we willing to let Jesus tend the garden of our hearts. Do we trust that Jesus is stronger than every chaotic power at work in our lives?
