To be human is to long for relational communion, and the essence of Christian communion is delighting in others for who they are as God's image bearers, not for what they can offer us. In this teaching, we explore the beautiful communion of the Trinity (Father, Son and Spirit) welcoming each of us into their communion of delight so we can share this with one another. This movement in our lives is essential to the healing and repair of the world in which we're often invited to not delight in others and to even remain in hostility with others and seeing them for only what they bring to us. Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 11, Genesis 3, Isaiah 40:27

In a world filled with trouble, we're reminded of the promise of hope that has been shown to us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and one day will fully be present among us. At the Lord's table we're reminded pain and promise are odd dance partners, but we're called to presently live in this tension. For whenever we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord's death (pain, death and sorrow in the human experience) until he comes (hope and promise). The epistle to the Hebrews was written to people living in a liminal space of having to think and act in new ways. Many today are realizing they are being invited to live and act in new ways in the midst of a chaotic world. As the writer of Hebrews reminds us, here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. So, let us go to Jesus outside the camp. Scripture: Hebrews 13:12-14

In Psalm 40 we hear of the psalmist delighting to do the will of God. Needless to say, there's always a lot of talk about the will of God for one's life. In this teaching we wrestle with the truth of God's will simply being our daily surrender and choice of delighting to keep open, soft, and receptive hearts whatever the path before us. As we continue in Peter’s second letter, he tells us of a world pregnant with the patience of God. God's love of his created world will lead him to rescue it, and those who choose to live presently in the love of God while growing in the righteousness of God await a day of the Lord in which all will be laid bare and made new. This hope leads us forward. Scripture: 2 Peter 3

We begin our exploration of Peter’s second letter, where he invites followers of Jesus to share in God’s divine nature. This participation comes through the precious faith granted to them by the righteousness of Jesus, and it culminates in mutual affection and self-giving love for others. By practicing this way of life—one already present in God’s coming kingdom—believers will discover a rich and joyful welcome when it fully arrives. Scripture: 2 Peter 1:1-11

We're often impatient on our way to becoming something new. Yet we have a God of loyal love who never wanders from us even though we often wander from him. Our loyal love can be like the morning dew, here for a moment and then dissipating. The loyal love of God displayed to us in Jesus is good news to receive and invites us into movements of steadfast love, too. Scripture: Exodus 34:6-7, Hosea, Ruth

Will we receive this compassion on our journeys in order to be renewed and also to share that compassion with others? Scripture: Exodus 34:6-7

Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray. Rather than focusing on a list of requests, Jesus invites his disciples to use prayer as a way to align their hearts to God's will and ways. It's another beautiful invitation to awaken to the presence of God and communion with him. Scripture: Matthew 6:5-14

Prayer is a common idea both inside and out of religious environments. Most people have thoughts on prayer, some experience with prayer, and questions about what prayer really is. Rebecca invites us into her own journey as she shares the beauty and complexity with prayer. Why still pray when we face disillusionment and disappointment of unanswered prayer or denied requests? Prayer is so much more than a list we submit to God. It begins with an invitation from God to sit with him. Through contemplation, meditation, confession, lament, interceding for friends, declaring God’s goodness, stillness, listening, and awakening to God’s presence, we experience communion with God.

As we conclude this series, we give voice to the prophet Amos. God's people find themselves entangled in the system of the Satan, and God's justice will not remain silent. Yet, divine justice is always bound to divine mercy. A new day is coming—a day marked by hope, justice, and righteousness. In the meantime, followers of Jesus are invited to learn from this vision and actively participate in God’s new creation now. Scripture: Amos

Jesus was led into the wilderness for a time of testing. What was in his heart? In that disorienting and chaotic space, faced with the presence of the satan, our faithful brother in humanity shows us a beautiful way forward. As Jesus faithfully fulfills the calling of God’s people, we are invited to examine our own hearts in the face of testing. We rest in his faithfulness—and we move forward, following his example.
