Synopsis
This is the place where the world discusses indoor air quality, the built environment and disaster restoration issues. Every Friday at noon ET the show is live. The shows host are Joe Hughes, President of IAQ Training Institute and Cliff Zlotnik, President of Microban Systems. Every week we interview experts from the indoor air quality, building sciences and disaster restoration industry. As instructors for IAQ and disaster restoration training programs and active participants in industry associations we have the credibility and contacts necessary to bring top industry experts as guests on the show every week. The show is designed to help promote education and communication for industry professionals and consumers in need of assistance with IAQ, built environment and disaster restoration issues.

25/06/2010Ultra Violet Devices Inc. (UVDI) is one of the oldest and most respected ultraviolet disinfection companies in the world. It all began with the hard work and ingenuity of a single man. Three generations ago Luis Veloz was an engineer for Westinghouse when their R&D engineers developed and patented the first commercial ultraviolet lamps. Luis was excited by this new technology and in 1949 he purchased a Westinghouse UV lamp dealership. Early applications were difficult to develop, but Luis had a vision of how ultraviolet light might be widespread and effective. He formed Aquafine Corporation to focus on water disinfection. In 2003, UVDI launched its ALTRU-V line of air disinfection products. 21/05/2010This week we interview Andrew Persily, Ph.D. of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Dr. Persily works on indoor air quality and ventilation in commercial and residential buildings. His work includes the development and application of measurement techniques to evaluate airflow and air quality characteristics in a variety of building types, including large, mechanically ventilated buildings and single-family dwellings. Mr. Persily was also the Steering Committee Chair of the recently published ASHRAE Design Guide "Indoor Air Quality Guide- Best Practices for Design, Construction and Commissioning". 30/04/2010Hal Levin is a Research Architect with Building Ecology Research Group, Santa Cruz, California. Mr. Levin has conducted research and consulted on buildings impacts on occupant health and comfort as well as on the larger environment. Since 1978 his work has focused on the integration of knowledge about indoor and outdoor air pollution as well as other risk factors into the design, construction, and operation of residential, educational, and commercial buildings and communities. The list of his clients includes governments industry, and private individuals on five continents. He has been a leader in numerous professional and scientific societies and has received awards from several including ASHRAE's Environmental Health Award in 2008. He is the Executive Director of ISIAQ, the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate, and is President of the Indoor Air Institute.

EPISODE163 - Elliot Horner, PhD -Air Quality Sciences
16/04/2010Dr. Horner is the laboratory director and a principle consultant for Air Quality Sciences. He has a Ph.D. in plant pathology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, an M.S. in mycology from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, and a B.A. in botany/comparative literature from the University of North Carolina. After receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Horner completed an NIH funded fellowship characterizing fungal allergens at Tulane University School of Medicine before joining the research faculty in the Allergy/Clinical Immunology Section, where he established a bioaerosols and indoor mold research program. He served as the chair (2002) of the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Committee of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Lab Quality Assurance Program, and served on the Analytical Accreditation Board through 2003.
