This will be a three part series looking at our generosity with our time, talents and treasure. Today we start with Paul’s letter to Timothy asking him teach generosity and good deeds. God has so richly blessed us with all good things. How are we using those things to bless others for the purposes of the Kingdom of God? Maybe we are doing what everyone expects of us…but can we go beyond expectations and live fully for Christ?

All of us have desires, some good some bad. Unfortunately, we have all followed our evil desires at one time or another. What do you desire? God desires that we follow the Holy Spirit that He has graciously given to each of us. He will guide us so that we keep in step with the Father rather than keeping in step with the world. Will you let the Holy Spirit lead you into a life filled with love, joy, peace, kindness and all other good things of heaven?

We all battle temptation. Regardless of our age, race, gender, or spiritual maturity, temptation is a weapon used by Satan that promises to bring satisfaction, but comes at the cost of disobedience to God. Maybe you feel like you can’t overcome the temptations that plague you now? But God wants you to know that there is a road that leads to victory over temptation and it starts with Jesus.

As we finish our series on wisdom we end with a teaching on how to take all that we’ve learned and apply it using the 7th pillar, discernment. Jim Turney offers some ideas from the bible on a lifestyle, a way of living, that shows discernment. Join us as we pursue wisdom and ultimately pursue the one who embodied a wise life, Jesus.

Are you able to avoid the pitfalls of life? Often times we know what the outcome is going to be but we take the risk and act without prudence. Jesus always thought ahead and was never trapped. He always considered the outcome and knew how to respond wisely. He had a supernatural ability to avoid disaster. You can avoid ruin and disaster in all areas of your life by taking the time to act wisely and not be deceived.

We live in a cold hard world dominated by Satan and his forces that try to trip us up through temptation, deception and sin whether you believe in Jesus or not. David Philips teaches us today about the battle that occurs in the spiritual realm and the weapons God has given us to do battle against evil forces.

In the last teaching we learned about knowledge and how the details and truths about God are vitally important. Knowledge is acquired information that we get be reading the Bible and being in community with other Christ followers. Understanding is the application of that knowledge. Knowledge and understanding are directly connected. Relationally speaking , the more we know God the more we can apply what we know about God.

The knowledge of God is filled with details, facts, and truth that God will impart to us because He loves us and knows what is best for us. Knowledge is something that is so valuable and worth chasing after. And once you have it you can share it. Jim Turney points towards many different scriptures today that stress the importance of knowledge so that we understand the importance of it on our lives.

Do you like discipline? Probably not, but there is wisdom in accepting God’s discipline. Often times our unintentional mistakes lead to intentional sin. This leads to destruction. God corrects us because He loves us. And if we accept his correction, we can stay on the path of peace and joy. As we read from 2 Samuel today, we see how King David recognized his sin and accepted God’s correction, be it ever so harsh. So when it comes to your relationship with God, are you like David and accepting of God’s discipline?

How many of us listen to and follow instructions? When King Solomon wrote most of the collections of proverbs, he started out numerous passages by telling his son to pay attention and heed his instruction. It’s a simple concept to understand but we often choose not to follow the instructions God has left for us in the bible. When we don’t follow instructions we often find ourselves in a bad situation regretting our choice. God want you to pay attention today and follow his decrees so that you can lead a peaceful and joyful life.

Now that we’ve focused on the Christians need for wisdom, we begin to apply wisdom to specific areas starting with our view of God. The bible teaches us to fear the Lord, but so many people for different reasons are frightened God, which is not a healthy fear of God. Jim Turney teaches on what the proper fear of God means and how our relationship with God improves when we have a wisdom based fear of God.

As Christ followers we are either moving more towards wisdom or we are pursuing folly. Wisdom helps keep us on God’s path and helps us avoid pitfalls and distractions that lead us away from God. And as our relationship with God grows so does our knowledge of wisdom. Wisdom is ready to bless you, are you ready to pursue wisdom?

Wisdom is an advantage God offers us so that we can receive blessings and lead a better life. God will not hesitate to give wisdom generously when we ask for it. Have you been asking God for wisdom?
