The Word who was in the beginning is speaking to us today. Jesus says his sheep recognize his voice. To this moment, Jesus speaks to us through scripture. I know. I know. Christmas is supposed to be a sign of joy. But where is the joy? Perhaps you are not feeling it. Someone has vandalized the shalom. How do we know?  Things are not the way they are supposed to be. To be more specific, before Christ, we are not the way we are supposed to be. Paul, who found peace in Christ, wrote a letter to the church in Ephesus, reminding them that the Lord had given them peace with God and each other, through his own death. Malcolm Muggeridge prayed, “Lord, help us never to lose the wonder.” I wonder. Have we lost the wonder? Our awe is too quickly eclipsed by “awwww!” We have seen it all. Nothing new under the sun.
