Matthew 5:1-5 Jesus' first recorded sermon was the Sermon on the Mount. He preached to a large crowd that included his disciples. This sermon was first intended to bring encouragement to God's people and define for them the spiritual qualities found in a true citizen of the Kingdom of God. The sermon begins with the first three beatitudes that will focus on the three qualities of God’s kingdom citizens.

Matthew 4:23 - 5:1 This message is an introduction to the Sermon on the Mount. The Jews in Jesus' day were controlled and oppressed by the Romans. They were hoping that God would establish His Kingdom on earth where the Jews would regain political and military independence. But Jesus came with a different Kingdom. His Kingdom emphasized love and suffering, Jesus' kingdom changed the world and He instructs His kingdom citizens on how to live in this world in His first sermon - known as the "Sermon on the Mount.”

John 3:1-16 Nicodemus in John chapter three goes to see Jesus at night and He is told that he must be born again. At first, he was confused and disbelieving. Next, in John chapter seven, Nicodemus has moved closer to believing in Jesus as he defends the Lord against the Jewish leadership. Finally, in John chapter 19, Nicodemus risks his own reputation to honor Christ by assisting in Jesus burial. Each time Nicodemus has moved closer to faith in Christ. Nicodemus was moved from unbelief to belief by the power of God’s love.

Luke 2:8-20 Through our passage we will see shepherds who were not forgotten by God and they will receive a message of joy. Their response to this message and the response of others when they here it is the way that we should respond as well. We will see three ways we should respond to the joy-filled good news that a Savior has been born.

Hebrews 6:13-20 The book of Hebrews was written to Jewish believers who were being persecuted for their faith in Christ. Because of the persecution, some people rejected Jesus and returned back to Judaism. This scared some of the believers because the thought they might lose their salvation. The writer of Hebrews gives three ways to keep their hope in Jesus is secure.

Genesis 1-3 The word love shows up in the Bible 550 times. The word shalom (peace in English) shows up 551 times. That is to say it as important and ubiquitous as love, and yet it is an often ignored and unfamiliar part of Christianity. As we start Advent, we start with shalom to understand who Christ is and what he came to do.

Colossians 1:12-14 There are so many reasons to be thankful for Jesus Chris. But Paul in his letter to the Colossian church focuses on three reasons why we should be so thankful to Jesus for our salvation.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 A common question of Christians is, “What is God’s will for me?” We will clarify that question, at least in certain areas. We’ll take a look at a section of 1 Thessalonians where Paul makes crystal clear what the will of God is.

Philippians 4:10-14 We explore what contentment looks like in your life.

Colossians 3:12-17 As Christians, we have so many reasons to be thankful. In his letter to the Colossian church, Paul the apostle points out three reasons why we should be thankful as followers of Jesus.

Matthew 6: 1-34 When we read scripture, we are presented with a collection of stories of people from all sorts of different time periods, economic/ class groups, ethnicities, and life situations. These different stories serve as mirrors to reflect ourselves in the stories. The natural tendency is to relate to some characters and not others, but actually, scripture wants us to see that life boils down to two ways to live: control or faith. We will see how a desire to be in control manifests in a variety of ways but always roots itself in the tree of knowledge of good an evil. God offers us the life of faith as an alternative to being in control. When we live in faith we become carefree because we are in the Father’s love.

Isaiah 41:1-29

Acts 2:40-47 After Peter preached his first sermon, three thousand people were added to the church that day. From that day forward, God’s people began to meet together and a structure for the church was established. This structure set forward four priorities for a healthy church. We will discuss these four important priorities for a healthy church.

Ephesians 5:18 Many Christians seem to be living in what we could call a perpetual state of chronic spiritual fatigue. They compare their lives to the potential the Bible promises, and there is a disconnect. Their experience doesn't seem to live up to the hype. Where is the joy? Where is the victory? Where is the power? Could this be the result of living Christianity in their own strength? Fortunately, God has provided a solution. Those who are filled with the Spirit will tap into the power needed to live the life the true believer desires to live.

Matthew 28:16-20 & Acts 1:8 While Jesus was here on earth, he was preparing His disciples to carry on the mission of reaching the world with good news and establishing His church. The church is God’s plan to reach the world. Our focus will be on the commission that Jesus gives to all who are called His disciples. The big idea we will be exploring is, what is God’s plan to reach the lost world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

Nehemiah 13:1-31 Nehemiah leaves Jerusalem for a number of years and when he returns he finds that the people have compromised their commitments and their faith. Nehemiah reveals four areas where the people fell into compromise and he calls them back to faithfully honor the Lord.

John 10:10 We’ll be looking at Jesus’ statement that He came so we may have life and have it abundantly. We’ll talk about this idea of the full, abundant life, they also address the tactics of our enemy in deceiving humanity with things that are lesser (Gen. 3:1-5)

Nehemiah 11 - 12 Nehemiah knew that the nation of Israel could never be strong as long as Jerusalem was weak. But Jerusalem could not be strong unless the people of God were willing to sacrifice. We will see Nehemiah call on the people to present three sacrifices to the Lord for the sake of their city. These same three sacrifices are still required from God’s people today. God still calls His people today to be sacrificial for the sake of His church and for His glory.

Nehemiah 10:1-39 All the leaders and the people of Jerusalem came together and signed a contract to God confirming their commitment to honor God in both word and deed. In this passage, we will see three ways in which God’s people confirmed their commitment to honor the Lord.
