When Jesus began His ministry, He declared that He would set the oppressed free. Another word for oppressed could be “wounded.” Jesus is the Great Physician and He wants to perform surgery on our soul in the area of our wounding so that we are no longer held back from becoming everything He desires. If we are honest, most of us have wounds that come from our earthly fathers which hinders our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Our freedom in Christ is given, but something that is often overlooked or even misunderstood is that it must be guarded.
