For as far back as I can remember, I had a feeling of being “different.” I had a deep and abiding sense that when I looked up at the night sky, I was looking in the direction of my true home. In 1959, while in first grade, my wonderful teacher gave me first access to a just published book for children entitled, You Will Go To The Moon. When I told her that the book should not be shared with other students and refused to return it, she arranged a meeting with my mother and the school principal. When he asked me my reason for thinking the book should not be read by other students, I emphatically replied, “Because it is wrong.” He asked how I knew this and I replied, “Because I have been there!” Needless to say, the resultant counseling and testing established that I was mentally and emotionally stable and my “flight of fancy” was chalked off to an “overactive imagination.” Or was it?
