Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an incurable and progressive genetic disorder caused by a partial or complete loss of function of the NF1 tumor suppressor gene, resulting in elevated RAS-mitogen-activated protein kinase (RAS/MAPK) pathway signaling and the potential development of subsequent NF1-associated tumors.
