Many scandals have emerged about Australian soldiers' behaviours in recent international conflicts.   In the US, one of the most controversial military figures is Eddie Gallagher.  He was a Navy SEAL, and a Special Operations Chief, who was accused and acquitted of murdering a badly wounded young Islamic State prisoner in Mosul, in northern Iraq, in 2017.  A new book looks at that man, and the military culture he was operating in. It asks broader questions about what should be permissible in war, and who is setting the standards.
