Improving outcomes for patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma (UC) has been challenging, with many patients experiencing only short periods of progression-free survival after treatment with first-line chemotherapy. A game changer in many cancers, immunotherapy has provided new avenues for the cancer care team to help their patients with advanced UC live longer. In particular, new data on the use of immunotherapy in the first-line maintenance setting has shown that using immunotherapy before patients’ progress to the second-line setting increases survival without a negative impact on quality of life.
