After the former prime minister died on Thursday, Mr Shorten ditched his visit to Brisbane and remained in Sydney to pay tribute to his 'mentor and friend'. Mr Shorten said Mr Hawke's passion for the job inspired him to enter politics. Mr Morrison also thanked Mr Hawke for his service to the country and his ability to 'connect with everyday Australians'.
