James wrote that believers were not only to be hearers of the Word, but also doers of the Word. In his letter to Titus, Paul gives his compadre the difficult task of finishing the work of establishing the churches (and by extension, their witness) in Crete, a place and people known for low moral character. Though the task may be difficult, it is vital - and, it serves to make a very important point: that the light of a believer's testimony shines brightest when the actions of our lives line up with the words of our lips, and therefore stands in contrast to the darkness outside
