Matthew 5:6-7 Jesus' sermon on the mount focused on the Kingdom of God and its citizens. He began his sermon with eight beatitudes that reveal what the heart condition is like for kingdom citizens. The beatitudes deal with the internal qualities of the heart. The Bible speaks of the heart as the whole person, who you are at your core. So far in our series, we have seen three beatitudes. God’s people should have Desperate hearts, Broken hearts, and Surrendered hearts. In this section, Jesus will make a very natural transition focusing on righteousness and mercy. Kingdom citizens should have hearts that are hungry for God and tender towards others.
