Scott Cluthe interviews live from England, Michael Meacher. Michael Meacher was first elected to the British Parliament in 1970 after studying at Oxford University and the London School of Economics. Mr. Meacher was one of the longest serving ministers in Tony Blair's Labour government, from 1997 to 2003, and gained a reputation for being able to master a complex brief. He is author of Destination of the Species: The Riddle of Human Existence. There is really only one question for human beings that matters. What, if any, is the purpose of existence, and what are we here for? It is a question that has underlain religious conviction and philosophic inquiry throughout human history, and to which scientific rationalism in recent centuries has added some important insights.
