Matthew published two books about his time in Oman working as a teacher of English. My Year In Oman and Aonther Year In Oman. Both are excellent, and both offer a very interesting peek inside the upsides and downsides of working in a country with very different cultural values from America. Matthew writes with humor, and indeed a decade later he probably can see the humor, but I doubt that he smiled a great deal at the time. People who are embarking on a teaching career in Oman or elsewhere in the region should read the books and ask some hard questions of themselves. Travel and adventure sounds great, but cultues can clash.
