  • 20 Years of Playing Music

    22/02/2019 Duration: 45min

2019 marks the 20th anniversary of the Brobdingnagian Bards. To celebrate this amazing milestone, we are releasing a LOT of cool new content every month. We have also made this podcast public once again. Last year, we restarted the band through Patreon. We are creating all new music together. That hasn't been done since 2007. We wanted to give our kind members of the Nagians Only Club on Patreon, a special treat.  However, we realized that this podcast is a great tool for bringing new Brobdingnagian Bards fans back into the fold. We asked our Nagians if we could make it public again. They overwhelmingly agreed. And so... it's back! In this episode, we take one of the most in depth examination of how we got started. We share some fun anecdotes and stories from our time together early on. Yes. We've done some of this before. But this is a 20 year retrospective. So it's all new to us. We hope you will join us in our crusade to have fun sing Celtic songs and being Renaissance festival geeks. Maybe you'll even joi

  • 2019 Brings A Brobdingnagian Minute Back!

    20/02/2019 Duration: 02min

Last year, this podcast became patron-only as part of the Nagians Only Club on Patreon. That is now changing! You see, January marked the 20th anniversary of the Brobdingnagian Bards. It seemed a shame to hide all of this great content from Nagians around the world. So we asked them if we could make this podcast public once again. They resoundingly said, "YES!" We are very pleased to share this show with you. Once a month, you will hear us chat about what's new, funny things that happened or are happening, behind-the-scenes look at new songs, chat about geek culture, and all of the silly antics that make up a Brobdingnagian Bards show.  Yes, it's a lot like listening to a Brobdingnagian Bards with all of the craziness that ensues. Sign up today! Of course, this podcast would not be back without the generosity of members of the Nagians Only Club. You can support our mission to make Celtic music fun when you join us there on Patreon for as little as $5 per month. Plus, you'll get episodes before regular listene

  • 10 Things to do with Worn Out Brobdingnagian Bards CDs

    08/03/2016 Duration: 22min

Photo by GRHookPhoto.com As we prepare for our reunion show at Sherwood Forest Faire, wandering through the grounds, we record a podcast for the world to hear! And our theme is: What you can do with worn out Bards CDs? When they’ve been listened to far too often, rendering them useless for further musical perusal? Here are our suggestions… 10. Coaster! 9. Oriental Star – be a CD ninja! 8. Frisbee 7. Mirror 6. Christmas Ornaments 5. Reflect on the Virgin Song (?) 4. Confounding Jugglers at Ren Faires 3. Sundial (using a recorder!) 2. “Fun” things to do in your microwave (Disclaimer: Don’t try this at home. DANGER.) 1. Wall Art! What would YOU do with your worn out Bards CD? Yesterday’s show was great! The show went well, the crowd was fun, and we were good – we didn’t go over time! We went through a bunch of old favorites, and some others that we rarely play for some of our die hard fans. Most importantly, as we log off, in order to replace your beloved CDs, go to thebards.net to replenish and restock your she

  • Drive to Dragon Con 2015, Brainstorming a Podcast

    06/09/2015 Duration: 30min

Here’s our improvised podcast while driving to DragonCon 2015! The first question that raises it’s head is “What is the purpose of a podcast?” In the past, we’ve done brainstorming, as well as just chatting about what’s going on with our lives. A behind-the-scenes tour, if you will – or a self-covering band! So how do you create a podcast for a band that only meets once or twice a year? Do we just go for the general chatting about life and work, or do we go for something completely off-the-wall? We don’t have much time together, so outrageous skits and dashing fight scenes aren’t really options… But these options of chatting about TV and our lives are all boring… a good setup is usually starting off with news, followed by an intro, and then the meat of the podcast. Informing, entertaining, evergreen. Crazy idea – we could do skits, but ask our audience to send in suggestions of what they’d like to see! Improv, parodies, rambling, actual dialogue, commentary – who knows! Or we could just start classifying ever

  • Brainstorming Hobbit Drinking Songs at DragonCon 2015

    11/07/2015 Duration: 30min

Brobdingnagian Bards were officially invited to DragonCon this year. We’re already planning this year’s shows. One of which is a Sunday evening Hobbit Drinking Songs show. The show is currently scheduled for 10pm in the Augusta Ballroom in the Westin. Every year, we like to change things up, doing something new and exciting. Last year, we added a fun arrangement of “Seven Drunken Nights”, hobbit-style. This year, I was thinking about how the show should conclude. What can we do to create one giant crescendo of a song where everyone is singing along with us? The song we decided on was “I See Fire”, the song from the end of the second Hobbit movie. It’s beautiful, dramatic and has a great sing-along at the end. At ALEP last year (the hobbit gathering in Central Kentucky), an Elf Choir performed the song. It was amazing. Wouldn’t it be awesome replicate that song at the end of the show? I threw the idea out to Andrew and together we talk about the logistics needed to make it happen. What we are envisioning. You

That said, we have a bunch of fun Bards news where you can hear some of the legitimate news, some of which was included in yesterday’s podcast. If you enjoy our insanity, then then please buy a CD over on our website at thebards.net and make sure you also subscribe to our mailing list.
