Today, the GSW Crew is discussing the Dark Triad. The Dark Triad is a set of three personality traits that are often associated with negative and destructive behaviors. These traits are narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. Narcissism refers to an excessive focus on oneself, including a sense of entitlement and a lack of empathy for others. Machiavellianism involves a willingness to manipulate and exploit others for personal gain, often through deceit and cunning. Psychopathy is characterized by a lack of remorse, empathy, and impulse control, often leading to impulsive and antisocial behavior. These traits can be found in varying degrees in individuals, and while they may provide certain advantages in certain contexts, they are generally associated with negative outcomes for both the individual and those around them.

Today, the GSW posse reviews a large-scale experiment on new year’s resolutions. Despite the popularity of New Year’s resolutions, current knowledge about them is limited. We investigated what resolutions people make when they are free to formulate them, whether different resolutions reach differing success rates, and whether it is possible to increase the likelihood of a resolution’s success by administering information and exercises on effective goal setting. Apps and social media, it can be big business, with romance scams costing victims millions of dollars across the US every year. Current catfishing statistics project an even further upward curve over the coming years, and clients reentering society after incarceration trying to build a new social network should be vigilant of the dangers. The boys sit down today to discuss the clinical skill of Emergency Planning. This skill is intended to support efforts for relapse prevention by teaching clients strategies to interrupt a crisis situation that could lead to potential high-risk situations. The purpose of this clinical skill is to prepare and equip clients that may find themselves in risky situations while in treatment with a select set of skills to manage those situations so they can achieve their goals. Excellent podcast for both therapists and clients.  

The boys sit down today to discuss the process of clarification and reunification for sex offenders. Reunification is the systematic restoration of a family who has been torn apart by incest or child sexual abuse. This process is completed for clients who have offended within their family as well as outside of the family.

The boys sit down today and talk about the colloquial term “playing the game” as it pertains to treatment. While some practitioners discourage the use of such a term to describe something as important as clinical psychotherapy, the GSW crew looks at this as an opportunity to reinforce client buy-in to treatment. The boys sit down today with Hilary Hislop. Hilary is a Certified Social Worker with six years of experience working in the social work field. Out of those six years of experience, she has worked with troubled at-risk youth, homelessness, substance abuse, and sexual offenders. Hilary specializes in cognitive behavior therapy, case management, and motivational interviewing. Hilary is a powerful force in the workplace and uses her positive attitude and tireless energy to encourage others to work hard and succeed. Hilary is inspired by her three daughters, who have given her the motivation to never give up. In her free time, Hilary likes to hike, draw, run, and take her daughters on dates.

We have a special guest joining us today, Mr. Brett Hoxer. Brett is a Certified Mental Health Counselor providing assessment and clinical treatment to adult sex offenders. Our topic of discussion today focuses on pornography.
