Their mission is from analyzing the social vocal communications of tigers, The Prusten Project seeks to define what makes an individual tiger's call unique in hopes of developing non-invasive acoustic monitoring. Such a project would be implemented through microphone arrays placed strategically over the tiger’s home ranges to be used as a tool for conservation censusing and anti-poaching efforts. Big Cats have been in the news lately with the Netflix documentary Tiger King. Thus, we decided to highlight one often forgotten, the Jaguar. This is the largest big cat in the Americas and like many of its relatives, it is trending towards extinction. These amazing cats survive in a variety of environments across many countries. We decided to roll out an episode on one of the cutest animals on the planet, but one that is often forgotten. The Chinchilla brings a smile to anyone's face, but has a conservation story many are not aware of. In the early 1900s, the Chinchilla almost went extinct, prized for its fur. The Hawaiian Monk Seal is one of the most endangered pinnipeds on the planet. Living solely in the Hawaiian archipelago, these seals are rare in that they are a tropical seal. This week leads us to another radical animal, the Electric Eel. By far one of the most incredible biological adaptations are this animal's ability to naturally produce electricity. We welcome a really unique species, the Star Nosed Mole. While it may look strange, its nose and other adaptations makes this a fascinating creatures to learn about.
