Teachers are often such unsung heroes, we went straight to the recipients of their work to let them thank teachers for their work. We spoke to Kindergarten through 12th graders, who quite brilliantly articulate their appreciation for the time and dedication teachers put into this really tough work that we do. Sure, you can go buy store bought Valentines for your child and be done with it, but at Community School of Davidson, educators have developed a more meaningful tradition that has students writing poems for each of their classmates beginning in Kindergarten. Learn more about this tradition and how it got started as Shane and Jen talk to CSD administrator and founding teacher, Leslie Tomko.

Why sports? What role do athletics play in a school's community and the development of students? Shane and Jen explore this topic with student athletes, Cade and Emily, along with Jay Martin, who helps with our athletics program at Community School of Davidson. In episode 12 of the CSD Power of We Podcast, Jen and Shane welcome middle school teachers, Beth Knight, Dorothy Pagan and Mimi Siadak in to take a look at CSD's 6th Grade Holocaust Museum project. This year will be our 10th year of creating this museum and is a good time to explore how and why this project came to be, why it's important to continue and some of the really important learning that happens throughout this project. In Episode 10 of the CSD Power of We Podcast, Shane and Jen welcome Community School of Davidson administrator, Marianne Coale and 5th grade teacher, Amy Teckenbrock for a great conversation about prepping for state mandated end of grade testing. Children are so much more than the score they get on exams and, while testing is necessary for a variety of reasons, there is so much more to a school year than just test prep. Listen as Amy and Marianne talk about how the elementary prepares students for these assessments and still keep school fun and work to keep test anxiety to a minimum.

8th graders at CSD take part in a weekly "Practicum" program.
