Episode 185 This week on Design Recharge I am interviewing Terence Tang. He is a lettering artist, brand builder, film maker, solopreneur. Terence talks about how his job was not fulfilling him as a designer and wanted to get back to creating things he believed in. After gaining momentum on instagram and with the encouragement of his wife and other friends he made the jump. He has now been working from home, building an audience, and selling physical goods for over a year now. If you have been thinking of making this leap then this show is for you.

Episode 183 When you have been in the design business for 20 years you can expect to have learned a thing or two. This week on Design Recharge my friend Brian White is going to share his nuggets of truth for staying fresh, staying nimble, and staying in business. Brian is a UI designer, a brand creator, web designer, and in his free time he enjoys painting, printmaking, and photography. He also finds time for side projects like kickstarted-funded projects for kids and writing and illustrating children’s books. But Brian’s attitude and theory about how to stay in business and be the best designer he possibly can be is motivating and inspiring.

Episode 182 Mitch Shepherd went to work one day and told them he would not be back. He did not have a set plan but knew he could not keep doing what he was doing anymore. After three years of punching a time clock he decided to brave the entrepreneurial waters and open his own shop. Mitch has learned a LOT in the last few years, made sacrifices, and is wearing more hats but he is recharged about design and growing a brand and a business, selling physical goods. These are creatives who have been in the business for 0-5 years and will be talking about the design community, clients, and work. Our guests this week are: Casey Brabbs a busy, freelance designer and illustrator who has explored different ways to self-promote and is continually growing, Amy Schwartz a design troublemaker making waves as the Design Director for Cards Against Humanity, Heath Vester an entrepreneur who designs and runs a start-up publication called Ant Farm, and Jordan Wong a Cleveland-based illustrator who uses humor in his work and finds clients in unique ways.

Episode 180 Peter Deltondo is a creative director, ux/ui product designer and web designer among other things. He also wears the hat of project manager and team dad at Mossio. Episode 179 Nathan Yoder always makes my face hurt. What! Yes, because every time I talk to him, I smile so big my face hurts after our conversations. Believe me it is a good thing. He has an infectious, positive energy not to mention his talent and skill as a designer, letterer, and illustrator. This week we’ll talk about times when it's harder to smile and harder to stay positive. We are talking about the times when we transition into new roles, new jobs, new creative pursuits and feel like we are NOT on top of the mountain. Nathan and I will talk about some of the valleys he has experienced on his creative path. Nathan has made the transition from full time to freelance. Then made a transition in the focus of his creative work. He is now growing and developing new skills in animation and developing his illustration style. Episode 178 This week I interview my friend and one of the funniest designers I know, Bethany Heck. Bethany has a love for type and for organization, she wants to make things easy for users and thinks about ways to do this. Bethany is an Art Director at Microsoft and has been getting them to think differently about the type they use and how they use it. Actually she has been getting a lot of people not just at Microsoft to think differently about type and type combinations and that is what we will dig into in this episode. Bethany will be exposing a commonly held typographic belief that I used to preach. I am now a convert. She will walk us through what made me throw out my old belief.
