The Widows Mite   Scripture is filled with admonition to defend and care for the widow and the orphan.  What does it really mean to defend and care for the widow.   To do otherwise is akin to idolatry according to the prophet Jeremiah.  The admonition comes with a promise that you will dwell in the Land God has promised to you, the land given to your fathers.  It also comes with a stern warning attached, "But if you will not obey these words, I swear by Myself," declares the LORD, "that this house will become a desolation."   Followers of Jesus Christ are admonished in 1 Timothy 5:3-4:  Honor widows who are widows indeed; but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to practice piety in regard to their own family and to make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
