"Suburbicon," "Thank You For Your Service," "The Manchurian Candidate"
29/10/2017 Duration: 01h14minHardly anyone went to see either of the two new movies we're talking about this week. They are still worthy of discussion! So this week, we dig into George Clooney's Coen fanfic "Suburbicon," and Jason Hall's "American Sniper" followup "Thank You For Your Service." Then we head all the way back to 1962 for our Reboot segment, and discuss John Frankenheimer's notorious (and pretty brilliant) "The Manchurian Candidate." It's Frank Sinatra as you've never seen him before. (He's actually trying.) Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. "The Killing of a Sacred Deer," "Wonderstruck," "Only the Brave," "The Snowman," "The Fugitive"
22/10/2017 Duration: 01h24minYorgos Lanthimos had one of the indie hits of last year with "The Lobster," and now he's back with "The Killing of a Sacred Deer," starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman and "Dunkirk" star Barry Keoghan. Does it work as well as "The Lobster," or even "Dogtooth?" We discuss! Also, Grierson goes solo on "Wonderstruck" and "Only the Brave," and then Leitch tries, and fails spectacularly, to make sense of the insane fiasco that is "The Snowman." Also: In our Reboot segment, we discuss "The Fugitive." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

"The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)," "Marshall," "Professor Marston and the Wonder Women," "Heathers"
16/10/2017 Duration: 01h27minNetflix's newest venture into the world of movies is, of all things, Noah Baumbach's new movie, "The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)," with Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Dustin Hoffman. It's good, but how good? Also, we dig into the sort-of biopic "Marshall" and the warm-hearted true story "Professor Marston and the Wonder Women." Then, in our Reboot segment, well, download us gently with a chainsaw, because we're heading back to 1988 and "Heathers." Timestamps: 6:33 "The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) 31:39 "Marshall" 45:15 "Professor Marston and the Wonder Women" 59:33 "Heathers" We hope you enjoy. "Blade Runner 2049," "The Mountain Between Us," "The Florida Project," "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure"
09/10/2017 Duration: 01h21minDiehard fans waited more than 30 years for it, and now it's here: The sequel to "Blade Runner," "Blade Runner 2049," a long, thoughtful, gorgeous film that both nods to and exceeds the original. Director Denis Villeneuve's film is challenging, thoughtful and ambitious, but it's also far from perfect. We dig into it, and there's plenty to dig into. Also, we look at the plane-crash romance "The Mountain Between Us" and the much-praised indie "The Florida Project." Then, in our Reboot segment, we look back to 1988 and the beloved teenage classic "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." Whoa. "American Made," "Bull Durham," "Halloween"
02/10/2017 Duration: 01h13minTom Cruise. Some people love him, some people hate him, but he is always, always here. This week on the Grierson & Leitch podcast, our two hosts -- admittedly on the positive side on the Cruise ledger -- break down Cruise's "American Made," a fascinating spin on the Cruise persona that's another interesting spin from director Doug Liman. Even if you don't like Cruise, you might like this one. Then, in our Reboot section, we get seasonal. In honor of the start of the baseball playoffs, we look at the 1988 classic "Bull Durham." Then, to get you in the spooky October mood, we reach back for John Carpenter's seminal classic "Halloween." Timestamps: 6:10 "American Made" 26:30 "Bull Durham" 49:45 "Halloween" We hope you enjoy. "Battle of the Sexes," "Kingsman: The Golden Circle," "Me and Orson Welles," "Holy Motors"
25/09/2017 Duration: 01h24minThis week in the Grierson & Leitch podcast, we dig into the new Emma Stone-Steve Carell docudrama "Battle of the Sexes," which is unquestionably the best tennis movie of all time unless you're counting "Strangers on a Train" and maybe "Match Point." Then we tackle the sequel "Kingsman: The Golden Circle," which adds Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Halle Berry to the cast, but only barely. Then, in our Reboot segment, we discuss the oft-forgotten Richard Linklater film "Me and Orson Welles," as well as the crazy 2012 French film "Holy Motors." "mother!" "Brad's Status," "The Hudsucker Proxy"
18/09/2017 Duration: 01h18minAudiences hate it, critics are divided (but mostly like it) and everyone's sort of scandalized now that it exists ... but what do Grierson & Leitch think of Darren Aronofsky's "mother!"? This week's episode, taped live in Grierson's dining room in Los Angeles, digs into it. It's the movie everyone is talking about, for better or worse. Also, Grierson praises Ben Stiller's new film "Brad's Status." (Leitch hasn't seen it, thanks to a faulty print.) Then, in our Reboot segment, we head back to 1994 and the Coen brothers' first big Hollywood movie, "The Hudsucker Proxy." "Dunkirk," "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," "Girls Trip," "24 Hour Party People"
24/07/2017 Duration: 01h15minWe've got four movies to discuss this week, but to be honest, there's only one we REALLY want to talk about: It's of course Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk," one of the best films of the year. Grierson calls it one of the best moviegoing experiences of his lifetime, and all told, Leitch isn't that far behind him. Listen to them rave about Nolan's achievement. OK, fine, there were other movies too. Luc Besson's "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" is a noble failure, and "Girls Trip" is a noble success. Then, in our Reboot segment, we head back to 2002 for Michael Winterbottom's "24 Hour Party People." "War for the Planet of the Apes," "Mulholland Drive," "Kicking and Screaming"
17/07/2017 Duration: 01h12minPodcast strong. Ape proud. This week in the Grierson & Leitch podcast, we discuss the final film in the much-lauded "Planet of the Apes" trilogy, "War for the Planet of the Apes." Grierson is a huge fan of the first two films, especially the second one, but they left Leitch cold. So it's a little surprising where they both land here. Then we have two Reboot movies. First, it's 2001's "Mulholland Drive," David Lynch's masterwork that is considered by some to be the best movie so far this century. We're not quite willing to go that far, but it's still great. Then, they tackle 1995's "Kicking and Screaming," which is not the Will Ferrell soccer movie: It's Noah Baumbach's first feature. It's the '90s again! Timestamps: 5:55 "War the Planet of the Apes" 24:15 "Mulholland Drive" 46:52 "Kicking and Screaming" We hope you enjoy. "Spider-Man: Homecoming," "A Ghost Story," "Magnolia"
10/07/2017 Duration: 01h13minWe are delighted to come at you with nothing but happiness this week. We've got three movies this week, and we like all three of them. But there is shading in our praise. Will loves the new "Spider-Man" reboot, while Tim likes it, but finds it a little bit too familiar to his taste. They both love "A Ghost Story," though, David Lowery's strange, gorgeous glimpse into the abyss of death and the cosmos. Then, in our Reboot segment, we dig into Paul Thomas Anderson's three-plus-hour 1999 epic "Magnolia." Honestly, we could talk about that movie for hours. Timestamps: 3:10 "Spider-Man: Homecoming" 28:25 "A Ghost Story" 42:44 "Magnolia" We hope you enjoy. Let us know what you think @griersonleitch on Twitter, or griersonleitch@gmail.com. Best Movies of the First Half of 2017, "Okja," "The House"
03/07/2017 Duration: 01h32minWe have reached the midway point of 2017, which means it's time to look back at our favorite movies from the first half the year. So Will and Tim each give their picks for the best six movies so far. There is only one crossover on both lists. Sorry: We're going to make you listen to find out what the films are. We also have two new reviews this week. First, Bong Joon-Ho's "Okja," a Netflix original that's the most ambitious and unwieldy movie the streaming service has made yet. Then a movie that is much, much worse than not only that, but almost any movie you will see this year: The airless, laugh-free "The House." No Reboot segment this week: Those will return next week. "Baby Driver," "The Beguiled," "The Big Sick," "Transformers," "Nobody Speak," "Inside Moves"
26/06/2017 Duration: 01h41minThis is an insanely busy movie week, so: No chit-chat! Time to get down to business. Will and Tim first dig into Edgar Wright's unique vision that is "Baby Driver." (His name is Baby. He is not in fact a baby.) Will hasn't seen "The Beguiled" or "The Big Sick" yet, so Tim monologues on those, but they return to lament their lost souls after sitting through "Transformers: The Last Knight." But there's more! They both have a personal connection to the Netflix documentary "Nobody Speak," but they (mostly) put that aside to judge the movie on its merits. And then in their Reboot segment, they try to figure out why everyone liked Richard Donner's 1980 comedy-drama "Inside Moves." Timestamps: 5:30 "Baby Driver" 27:10 "The Beguiled" 31:45 "The Big Sick" 36:35 "Transformers: The Last Knight" 54:10 "Nobody Speak" 1:16:30 "Inside Moves" We hope you enjoy. "Cars 3," "All Eyez On Me," "Rough Night," "The Book of Henry"
19/06/2017 Duration: 01h18minA busy weekend means we have no time for a Reboot segment this week, but we've got plenty to discuss on this week's Grierson & Leitch podcast. First, we dig into "Cars 3," which Grierson believes is not only worse than "Cars 2" but in fact the worst movie Pixar has made. Leitch disagrees. There is much more agreement on the bewilderingly bad "All Eyez On Me," which is safe and dull in a way its subject Tupac Shakur never, ever was, and the limp comedy "Rough Night," which is one missed opportunity after another. Then Grierson tries to explain what in the world went wrong with Colin Trevorrow's "The Book of Henry," and whether we should worry about his impending "Star Wars" installment. Timestamps: 4:02 "Cars 3" 22:48 "All Eyez On Me" 41:00 "Rough Night" 1:00:10 "The Book of Henry" We hope you enjoy. Let us know what you think @griersonleitch on Twitter, or griersonleitch@gmail.com.
