"Under the Silver Lake," "Boogie Nights," "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover"
22/04/2019 Duration: 01h30minWe have a little announcement to make at the beginning of the show, but don't worry, it's a good one. Then we discuss the cult-film-in-the-making "Under the Silver Lake," with Andrew Garfield. The real fun comes from the Reboots, with Paul Thomas Anderson's "Boogie Nights" and Peter Greenaway's "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover." "Hellboy," "Her Smell," "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly"
15/04/2019 Duration: 01h19minThey made a new "Hellboy" movie? They did. And it is bad. Much better is Alex Ross Perry's "Her Smell," with Elizabeth Moss. But whatever your thoughts about either movie, neither is going to stand the test of time like Sergio Leone's "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." (In that order.) Timestamps: 9:27 "Hellboy" 29:44 "Her Smell" 46:50 "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" Thanks to Dylan Mayer and My Friend Mary, both of which are wonderful, for the music. We hope you enjoy. "Shazam!" "Pet Semetary," "High Life," "Amazing Grace"
07/04/2019 Duration: 01h35sNew movies, and they're both hits. First, it's the DC Comics "light" version with "Shazam!" Then there's a remake of the Stephen King novel "Pet Semetary." Then Grierson solos on two art-house hits: Claire Denis' "High Life" and the long-thought-lost Aretha Franklin documentary "Amazing Grace." Learn more about your ad choices. "Dumbo," "The Highwaymen," "The Beach Bum"
01/04/2019 Duration: 01h08minFirst off, we apologize for the slightly worse audio mixing on this episode: It's Leitch's fault, he thought his mic was plugged in but wasn't. Sorry. Three new movies this week: Tim Burton's "Dumbo," John Lee Hancock's "The Highwaymen" and whatever the hell Harmony Korine is doing with "The Beach Bum." Also, Grierson talks briefly about "Diane." "Us," "Dragged Across Concrete," "Roll Red Roll," "Rumble Fish"
25/03/2019 Duration: 01h32minThere isn't much of a bigger story in movies right now than the release of a new Jordan Peele movie, and "Us" looks like it might be even a bigger hit than "Get Out." How does it compare to that movie, and how does it stand on its own? We have an extended conversation. Then we look at the Mel Gibson-Vince Vaughn cop thriller "Dragged Across Concrete," and the Steubenville documentary "Roll Red Roll." Then, in our Reboot segment, we look at Francis Ford Coppola's odd "Rumble Fish." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. "Triple Frontier," "Zero Dark Thirty," "Haute Tension"
18/03/2019 Duration: 01h25minThere's one new movie this week, from Netflix: J.C. Chandor's "Triple Frontier." Ben Affleck! Oscar Isaac! It is ... not that inspired. What IS inspired is "Zero Dark Thirty," which we discuss in our Reboot segment. What a movie. Also: The French horror film "Haute Tension." Learn more about your ad choices. "Captain Marvel," "Gloria Bell," "Apollo 11," "The Apartment"
11/03/2019 Duration: 01h09min"Captain Marvel" might not be the most ambitious or original Marvel movie, but it's still a historic one, and not just because of the box office receipts. We dig into the origin story, and how it leads into the next (and final?) "Avengers" movie. Grierson solos on "Gloria Bell" and "Apollo 11," and then we dig into our Reboot movie, the Best Picture-winning Billy Wilder film "The Apartment." Learn more about your ad choices. "Leaving Neverland," "Climax," 'Greta"
03/03/2019 Duration: 01h13minThe movie everyone's talking about this weekend didn't get a theatrical release at all, but we felt it had to be discussed: HBO's shattering documentary "Leaving Neverland." It's quite an experience. It's strange that a Gaspar Noe movie could be "lighter" fare, but his "Climax" has received his best reviews in years. Also, we dig into Neil Jordan's weird, tonally off "Greta," Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

2019 Oscars Recap, "Fighting With My Family," "Paddleton," "Badlands"
25/02/2019 Duration: 01h38minThe Oscars were last night! We made Grierson get up SUPER early in Los Angeles to recap the evening, which was surprisingly excellent ... until the very end. Argh. Then we discuss the WWE fantasy "Fighting With My Family" and Netflix's "Paddleton." And in our Reboot section, we dig into Terrence Malick's "Badlands." Learn more about your ad choices. 18/02/2019 Duration: 01h40minIt's Oscars Week! And boy oh boy are these Oscars going to be a fiasco. Tim and Will talk about the slow-motion disaster this award season has been, and then they make their predictions for the major categories. Then they look at the Robert Rodriguez-James Cameron collaboration "Alita: Battle Angel." Then we've got quite the Reboot: 1994's "Interview With The Vampire." Hoo boy, this movie. "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part," "High Flying Bird," "What Men Want"
11/02/2019 Duration: 01h13minThere's another Lego movie! Man, there have been a lot of those recently. This one, a sequel to the surprise hit, isn't nearly as much fun ... and honestly, what has happened to Chris Pratt? Then we climb Mount Soderbergh with his NBA heist movie "High Flying Bird." Then we close with the gender-flipped "What Men Want." And we also try to figure out what the hell just happened with Liam Neeson. Learn more about your ad choices. "Velvet Buzzsaw," The Films of Steven Soderbergh, "Inherit the Wind"
03/02/2019 Duration: 01h05minIt's another weekend in which the only interesting movie is a Netflix release. THAT has been happening a lot. We discuss Dan Gilroy's art horror satire "Velvet Buzzsaw." Then we try out a new feature, in which we analyze the career of a director before he/she has a major new release: Our test case is Steven Soderbergh. Let us know if you like the idea. Then, in our Reboot section, we look at 1960's "Inherit the Wind." Lots of courtroom shouting! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. "Serenity," "25th Hour," "Galaxy Quest"
27/01/2019 Duration: 01h05minGrierson is in Sundance, hittin' the slopes and hanging out in hot tubs with models and dogs in sunglasses, but he still has time for the show! Unfortunately, he hasn't seen Matthew McConaughey's and Anne Hathaway's "Serenity," but, also unfortunately, Leitch has. So they discuss that crazy-ass movie. The real fun is in the Reboots. First, we look at Spike Lee's 2002 masterpiece "25th Hour," which we both love even more than we did when we initially saw it. And then the 1999 cult comedy "Galaxy Quest." "Glass," "Fyre," 2019 Sundance Preview, "What We Do in the Shadows"
21/01/2019 Duration: 01h26minM. Night Shyamalan is back! The old one! The one you didn't like. His "Glass" is the third film of a supposed trilogy, and it is by FAR the worst of the three. Also, we talk about the Netflix documentary "Fyre," though we didn't talk about the Hulu one about the Fyre Festival. (It's not as good as the Netflix one.) We also preview the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and, then, in our Reboot section, we discuss the 2014 comedy "What We Do in the Shadows." Learn more about your ad choices.
