Happy Fri-YAY, errybody! Though it doesn't feel much like a Fri-yay for growers in the upper midwest; rain, cold temps, and a bearish quarterly grain stocks report really put a damper on the celebrations today. However, we bring the news, regardless of whether it's good or bad. And news we have! Seafood trade with China has been impacted by tariffs, Delaney updates us on the QGS report, and she brought us a talk held yesterday at the KC Outlook Forum by Gregg Doud, Underecretary of Agriculture, and his focus is on trade. Happy Thursday everyone; Delaney is down in Kansas City today covering the KC Ag Outlook Forum and will be bringing us more updates from that tomorrow. In the meantime, I have a quick cut of Bill Northey's address wherein he discusses how the Market Facilitation program was designed. We also have an update from reporter Bruce Gaarder with Darcy Maulsby, an author, farmer, and storyteller, about how to best get the story of modern agriculture out to the people who buy our stuff.

Trade dominates today's headlines with the official announcement that the US and Japan are opening the gate to Bilateral trade talks, NAFTA or rather Mexico-US trade text will be released Friday, and is looking to expand some market access into China in the wake of US trade tensions. The Farm Bill is also top of mind for many as expiration nears this coming Sunday. For today's conversation, we are livening things up a bit and talking with Aaron Steele one of the founders of Goats on the Go, a goat grazing business, and their future expansions into the retail and meat industry.

On today's #TechTuesday we are talking specifically Irish technology that Delaney got to see during her trip last week. The two companies featured today are DeadDock, a company working to transform how herbicides are applied on Dock weeds; and Fresh Graze, a young tech company working to improve grazing management practices. Top news for the day includes new remarks and concerns from the WTO about the USDA Assistance package and what that means for the world markets; continued rollbacks on WOTUS, and a 24 hour strike happening in Argentina. What could that mean for the markets and more? We will find out later this week!

Well, it sure seems like #Harvest18 is underway across much of the Midwest, so it's a great day to dig in to recent market movements with our friend from north of the boarder, Matthew Pot, author of the Grain Perspectives newsletter. We chat a bit about NAFTA and the changing flow of soybean trade globally, and take a look at the months ahead for corn, soybean, and wheat growers.Also, President Trump plans to sign the renegotiated Korea-US Free Trade Agreement today, crude oil prices looks to be on a continued upswing, and Delaney runs through Friday's Cattle on Feed report from the USDA.

It's a Friday, and Delaney is back in the good ol' US of A for today's podcast! She brings up to speed on the things she learned and saw while in Ireland at the National Ploughing Championships over the last week. Some of the things were surprisingly different, others surprisingly similar. We also have a riot of trade news for today's episode - China is buying US beans again, an FTA w/ India is in the works, and the US/Mexico NAFTA replacement deal looks closer than ever. To tie in to that bit of news, we have a conversation today with Dr. Alyshia Galvez, professor at CUNY Lehman College, about her recent book "Eating NAFTA", about NAFTA's impact on the Mexican consumer. It makes for an interesting shift in the way we (Americans) typically think about trade, and our discussion could have gone on for hours! More tariffs in the news today; raise your hand if you're surprised... The US will put tariffs on another $200B of Chinese imports and China will retaliate with tariffs on $60B of US imports; both set to go in to effect September 24, with more to come a real possibility. Plus, Florence has moved away from North Carolina so now the agriculture industry is getting back to work and assessing damage to both crops and livestock. Nearly every acre in that state has been hit with excessive rain right before/during harvest, so it might be a bit before true damage is known.And Delaney brings us a report from the National Ploughing Championship in Ireland! Today she has our #TechTuesday interview with Brian Mulcahy, GM of HerdInsights, a dairy cow heat detection and health monitoring product.

Breaking news! Rain continues to fall across the corn belt! Just kidding, that's been the same old news since Friday. We do, however, have a news update on the Farm Bill conference committee and a new hire at the EPA; plus, a potential path to stability for the government of Argentina.And, wheat harvest is wrapping up with corn and bean harvests soon to be underway, so we checked in with a few agronomists while at the Farm Progress Show last week to hear how this year has performed and what growers are thinking about next year.
