Now her sisters have become not only their mom's caregiver, but Karla’s as well. They will talk about their ordeal, and how they learned how burnout and stress can be disabling, as it was for Karla. Back in 1979, their family all escaped from Communist Czechoslovakia. Karla's family stayed in a refugee camp in Austria for 5 months and came to California where they settled with the help of the parents' friends. None of them spoke any English when they first came. Mental and emotioanl burnout is every bit as debilitating, if not more than the physical symptoms. Denise is fine today, after 5 years of having the responsibility of caring for her mom with dementia, and is currently rebuilding her life after emotional and mental burnout. My son as a child was verbally and slightly physically abused by his dad. I had him arrested when Zach was 2 and we worked through the system on their relationship but still Zach was hard to handle with his outburts. As Zach got older he continue to be socially awkward and behind in his social skill set even through high school. During the year prior to jail time. I had him forensically evaluated to understand his thinking and mindset. What came out of it was a barrier... Zach had been sexually assaulted
