The human heart or inner man has been radically affected by original sin. The gift of a new heart from God is man's greatest need.

Memory is a precious ability God gave us when we were born. We are urged in Scripture to remember certain things and people, especially our Lord Jesus.

Jeremiah is call to act out before the eyes of Judah lessons of truth relating to the coming judgment.

Judah's history was marked by religious insincerity. They had grown proficient with confessions, not of which God accepted. Consequently the door was shut to mercy and judgment came.

God commands Jeremiah to do a strange thing; to carry away a loin cloth, bury it; dig it up later and pronounce it useless, then apply the lesson to a useless people.

Jeremiah is distressed over the plans of his hometown to kill him. He wants to know why bad people are successful.

In this message we are reminded of the seriousness that God takes concerning the words of his people.

Jeremiah gives an excellent contrast between idols and the true and living God. Idol worshipers become like their idols, for people become like their object of worship.

In this passage God gives a penetrating characterization of sin.

Jeremiah preaches to a people who have made religious rituals and relics the basis of worship. Their faith had given way to superstition.

Israel continues her backsliding; God calls her to return; ask for the ancient ways and walk in them; we will not walk in it.

Though Israel and Judah were backslidden people, God continues to lure them back to Himself. His compassion is exemplary of His inscrutable grace.

God presents his claims against a wife who has broken the marriage covenant. Though she refuses to repent, God does not give up on her. Again and again he calls her to come back. Judah is his wife.

When God called Jeremiah, excuses were offered to God as to why it was impossible for Jeremiah to accept his call. God is sovereign in whom he choose and whom He chooses he equips.

The greatest challenge for every church for every generation is to know the true God and love and serve him.

When our theology is settled and the gospel is understood clearly, we are still inadequate until the Holy Spirit fills us with his power.

God disciplines every son because he loves them. The absence of discipline indicates that one is not a child of God.

No one believed that Jesus would actually rise from the grave, consequently sadness and hopelessness overwhelmed them. Once convinced that he really was alive they were changed forever.

Hebrew Christians are urged to continue in the faith by running the race while keeping their eyes on Jesus.
