    Meet Aleš Golob, a passionate lacrosse fan who is doing everything he can to grow the game of lacrosse in Slovenia. A former swimmer, Aleš found the game later in life and took to it like a sponge to water. Slovenia is an absolutely stunning country in eastern Europe known for its vast mountain ranges to the north and beautiful beaches to the south. Ales encourages people to come visit the country and enjoy all that it has to offer. Lacrosse is in its infancy in Slovenia with less than 100 players in the country, but those who do play are extremely passionate. The primary focus of the countries players is field lacrosse at the moment. Aleš credits foreign coaches for coming to Slovenia and spreading their knowledge and passion for the game. International fame and prestige isn’t an immediate goal for the players in Slovenia, they play simply because they enjoy it. James explains his ties to lacrosse in Australia, how he ended up in Denmark, and the state of lacrosse in Denmark. The history of Denmark lacrosse has seen phases of tremendous growth and retraction. In its current state James estimates that there are maybe 50 people playing lacrosse in the country at any given time. Lacrosse in Denmark is as much about the game as it is about friendship.     Meet Miles Silva, a West Point graduate and professional lacrosse player in the MLL for the Denver Outlaws. In today's episode of Going Offsides, Nick and Ryan learn more about what Army Lacrosse is all about, how Coach Joe Alberici runs a successful program, and the unique hurdles servicemen have to overcome to achieve their goals in sport. Silva was essentially born to play Army Lacrosse. Despite his family’s best efforts to convince him otherwise, he knew Army was the only place for him. With both parents having attended West Point themselves, they wanted to make sure that Silva had come to the decision to attend on his own. A bit of a late-bloomer in college, Silva really hit the scene during his junior year. In 2019, he collected 30 ground balls and buried 39 goals. Silva followed up with a team-high 22 tallies and 15 ground balls in 2020, only to have the season cut short by coronavirus lockdowns in March.     Episode six of the Going Offsides podcast features Hope College Men’s Lacrosse Coach Mike Schanhals. Coach Schanhals has been with the program since 2005 and has lead the team from an unaffiliated club, to the MCLA, and more recently to NCAA Division III in 2013. In his time at Hope College, he was able to bring the team to an NCAA tournament in 2019 and has been able to do so while teaching full-time. Within the episode we discuss the history of Hope College lacrosse, how the program has evolved over time, and how he has been able to balance having what appears to be two full-time jobs. In addition to his everyday experience, he briefly mentions his time as a coach before Hope, his experience winning multiple high school state championships, and how he witnessed the great American movie American Pie take place in Michigan.
