The co-founder and spiritual director of The Assisi Institute in Rochester, New York, he holds graduate degrees in Religious Studies from the University of Notre Dame and Clinical Psychology from the University of Duquesne. His education includes extensive study in psychology, spirituality, mysticism, world religions, and yoga, and his mentors include Father Richard Rohr and Roy Eugene Davis, a direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda who ordained Isha Das as a minister and Kriya Yoga teacher. He is the author of Open Wider the Door: The Integration of Kriya Yoga and Mystical Christianity and other books. A Bay Area native, he received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the California Institute of Integral Studies, where he served as adjunct professor of psychology. His long-time commitment to spiritual growth as both a practitioner and teacher began in 1971. His path has touched upon Transcendental Meditation, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, Jean Klein (a European medical doctor and master of Advaita Vedanta and Kashmiri Shaivism), Sri Ramana Maharshi, Byron Katie and Mata Amritanandamayi (Ammachi). Most recently, he has studied with Adyashanti. This is our second visit with John. Raghu Markus
11/03/2020 Duration: 34minRaghu Markus has been involved in music and transformational media since the early 1970s when he was program director of CKGM-FM in Montreal. He spent two years in India with Neem Karoli Baba and Ram Dass, and in 1974 collaborated with Ram Dass on the box set Love Serve Remember. (This interview is mainly an homage to Ram Dass, with whom Raghu remained closely associated until Ram Dass passed in December 2019.) In 1990 he launched Triloka Records and Karuna Music. Triloka became a critical leader in the development of world music and was home to such artists as Krishna Das, Hugh Masekela, Walela, and Jai Uttal, as well as transformational media projects. Raghu was also associate producer for on-line and television events for Ram Dass, Oprah Winfrey, and Eckhart Tolle. Judith Teitelman

Guesthouse for Ganesha, her debut novel, is described as “a tale of love, loss, and spirit reclaimed” that weaves “Eastern beliefs and perspectives with Western realities and pragmatism.” The journey of the main character, a young Jewish woman, ranges from 1920s Germany to India, and the narrator is Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity known as the destroyer of obstacles.
